    '18 ZR1 Production Version Spotted

Just a small amount of minor camo left on this alleged 2018 ZR1 production ready version. Thank you AutoGuide for the pictures and information!

More Chevy Corvette spy photos have been captured, this time showing what looks like the production form of the new 2018 Corvette ZR1.

Aerodynamic enhancements contribute the biggest visual change to the ZR1 thanks to a new large hood, more air vents, a new front fascia, a new front splitter and even small vertical winglets attached to either end of the splitter.

A massive wing in the rear and bigger rocker panels complete the package, all of which should help this Corvette stick to the track. Previous ZR1 prototypes were seen testing with blue brake calipers, a signature element of older ZR1s, and those same blue calipers can be seen on the rear end of this car.

Power for the new ZR1 is still a mystery, though it is expected to be over 700 horsepower. A supercharged 6.2-liter V8 could be called into service for the ZR1, while a twin-turbo V8 is also reportedly under development at GM and could power this car.

ThisZR1 will be last special edition model of the C7 generation before the new C8 is introduced in 2018. The new Corvette will almost certainly be a mid-engine sports car, leaving the fate of the front-engine Corvette in question.

The Corvette ZR1 should debut in early January at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show.

Looks pretty awesome, but unless I win the lottery well out of my price range.

Hmm, that hood reminds me a lot of the early C3 L88 hood....and GM did trademark "L88" a couple of years ago. I really look forward to the officially unveiled car - not that I could afford one either.

Very interesting to look at, but I am pretty satisfied with my current C7. That wing is a conversation starter for sure.

If it's not all wheel drive what good is another 50+ horse power. The 650hp is more than the Z06 can handle anyhow.

To paraphrase someone or another: Too much horsepower is just enough.

Then again, as Carroll Shelby said: "There is never too much horsepower.....just not enough traction." But he drove a twin-supercharger 427 Cobra with 800 hp on tires with a whole lot less traction than the ZR1 will have.

My favorite Carroll Shelby quote is:

"Horsepower is for bragging rights; torque is for winning races."

The rear wing looks way out of place for the car. My thoughts. I need to see the engineering drawings looks flimsy or may even be a distraction.

More power and torque may be too much to for the car to handle in some situations but it should help track times coming out of a curve or in straight line, should help top speed...also just because you have it, you don't have to use it all, just knowing is there on demand is a good thing. :-)

Many make fun of the Viper saying that it has a wing the size of a dinner table. This one on the ZR1 could be the breakfast bar....

I would like to own one with 500 plus HP. Corvette has seen fit to put the 455-460 hp in the C7 but what I've seen here so far is that folks add mods, superchargers to make them car have more HP. Wonder why GM didn't put 500 or more in the car. A corvette on this chassis with 800 seems a lot when the Z06 is hardly manageable for some people. I guess BALANCE is the key.
