New Corvette is on the way -- but only for top Chevy dealers

The seventh-generation Chevrolet Corvette, unveiled at the auto show this week, will be in showrooms by late summer. But some Chevy dealers will be left out. For the first time, General Motors is requiring Chevrolet dealers to meet a sales-volume threshold to carry the Corvette, dealers say. Dealers who failed to sell at least four Corvettes last year -- likely hundreds of Chevy stores -- won't get the 2014 Corvette, several dealers told Automotive News.

Hmm interesting, Chrysler did the same thing with one of their vehicles.

I hope this plan doesn't backfire on them. This is the kind of thing that drives dealer principals crazy!

IMO that's good, I know quite a few dealers that are Vette specialists and carry & sell hundreds a year. My friend's dealership in South jersey being one of them, already has quite a few allocations and I'm one of them. Why send the new Vette to a dealer in the middle of bumf**k, that'll never sell one.

The only downside I see is if this all new C7 generates more interest then past generations and your local dealer can't get one - what next? Someone may not want to travel to find a dealer that does have the allocations.

While it's great that Chevy is thinking of their most successful dealers, I'm curious how many cases will be brought to this forum where dealers are charging crazy "market adjustments" on the C7 thereby stunting future sales growth.

Dealers EARNED the new stingray, based on how many corvettes they sold in 2012.....and that was known to many of them last year already.... 4 corvettes sold in 2012 = 1 new Stingray.

This controlled allocation runs through the end of the year until full production ramps up at the end of the year. Dealers (except a select few ) will be marking them up... Those that don't surely will be sold out.

Yes, but how often do you hear about dealers selling at MSRP,etc as opposed to the dealers with the crazy "market adjustment" on a brand new car? Negative pricing practices will build a negative perception that could taint sales for the first year or so until the car becomes fairly commonplace or the next big version of the C7 is released.

Are there any forum supporting dealers or other dealers that you guys have had good success with in the past? I know some dealers are very good at giving good deals while others are true crooks.

I have not bought a new Corvette since early 2000 when the '01 Z06 was released. I have been vette-less too long and I like the look and spec of the C7.

I am looking for names of the good reputable dealers so that I can find out who to start working out a deal.

Quite often, buying out of town can save you a great deal of money.

Thanks and have a great day!
    Don

Not nessarily so - depening on dealer. I placed a deposit on a C7 at an active/large
corvette dealership in southern NH and contract states MSRP - no mark-up.

Not a great dealership in my book live like 2 miles from them but have never bought from them avoid it if I can and I've bought a Camaro and a cadillac from other dealers. Treated my buddy with his corvette like crap.
