Corvette E-Ray Moving Forward!

Jan 16, 2017 - 11:45 AM - by elegant
Confirmed progress that GM is at least engineering investigating whether we will have a Corvette E-Ray in our future.

During the standard-issue tour, Car Advice spotted something peculiar: a C7 Corvette‘s frame sitting within the lab. According to the report, no other non-hybrid vehicles were seen in the facility. The body shell was stamped with the correct coding, too, “Y1BC”, which is indeed a C7 Corvette’s bones.

Obviously, this lends itself to the idea of a hybrid Corvette in the future. GM also moved to trademark the “Corvette E-Ray” and “E-Ray” names in 2015, leading to speculation over a hybrid-powered Corvette in the future.

However, most of the hybrid speculation has been saved for the C8 Corvette, which has been pegged as a mid-engine successor to the C7 Corvette. It’s been thought the upcoming 2018 C7 Corvette ZR1 would serve as the swan song for a front-engine, rear-wheel drive Corvette before the icon makes the switch to a mid-engine configuration.

But, maybe the Corvette team has a surprise up its sleeve before the C7 is whisked off. Only time will tell.

C8 Confirmed!

Jan 12, 2017 - 12:35 PM - by elegant
Yes, Viriginia, GM's VP of Global Design Michael Simpcoe has confirmed there will be a C8, and that it is one he will personally be the final design authority on.

Speaking to Wheels, Simcoe said there is immense “emotional pressure” surrounding the design of the next-generation Corvette, though he was careful not to give away any specifics.

“You’re dealing with an icon that’s been successful, consistently successful, and you don’t want to be the one who blew that,” said Simcoe.

“Being part of a Corvette design is very exciting for everyone involved and there certainly will be a next generation Corvette at some point.”

Simcoe, who has deep roots with Holden, likened the pressure to one of his most well-known design projects: the top secret, reborn Holden Monaro from the early 2000s.

The C8 Corvette is largely expected to make the switch to a mid-engine configuration, marking a revolutionary change in the Corvette’s lifetime. And for Simcoe, that’s likely no easy task to carry on a legend’s name.

Top 50: '16 Corvette Sales

Thanks to CorvetteBlogger, we have a list of the top 50 Corvette dealers by new C7 2016 sales.

2016 was the third full year for Chevrolet in producing and selling America’s favorite sports car. While sales remain very strong with 29,995 Corvettes sold during the 2016 calendar year, the number of Corvettes sold in the United States has declined each year since 2014’s high of 34,839 and 2015’s total of 33,329.

As the market for the C7 has matured and dealer inventories have grown, it’s actually easier than ever to buy a Corvette these days. It all comes down to who can get you the Corvette you want and who you are most comfortable working with. So keep that in mind as we present the Top 50 Corvette Dealers for 2016:

We always like to start off this report with a couple of disclaimers.

First, we believe knowledge is power, and knowing who the dealers are that specialize in selling Corvettes can make for a better buying experience for you as the customer. It’s not that your local hometown dealer isn’t equipped to handle your order, but Corvettes aren’t your average Chevys and having that experienced sales pro on the other side of the desk when it comes to placing your order and how they handle their dealership allocations is important.

Having said that, when you look at the list, you’ll see the Top 50 dealers account only for a fraction of the 29,995 Corvettes sold in the USA during the calendar year, so there are a lot of great Chevrolet dealerships who are selling Corvettes that didn’t make the list. Like I said above, it all comes down to who you are most comfortable working with.

The Top 50 Corvette Dealers of 2016

The list of top 10 dealers remains the same as the top 10 dealers from 2015, but the order has reshuffled slightly. Our friends at Kerbeck Corvette are once again the world’s largest Corvette dealer with 1,044 Corvette sold

Strong Dec Corvette Sales

Jan 04, 2017 - 7:59 PM - by elegant
C7 sales went up 10% in December. And for the year finished at just under 30,000 units. Not the best year ever, in fact down 10% from one year ago, but still a very strong year -- and most importantly a moneymaker for GM so that development for the next generations of Corvettes is further funded and can/will go forward. Here some details thanks to CorvetteBlogger!

The final monthly sales report of 2016 was posted this morning from GM and it looks like Corvette sales rebounded to have a great month!

In December 2016, Chevrolet sold 2,709 Corvettes for a 10.4% gain over December 2015. For the 2016 calendar year (January-December), a total 29,995 Corvettes were delivered to new owners. Sales for the calendar year were down -10% from the 33,329 Corvettes delivered in the 2015 calendar year.

The good news is that after a dip in November 2016 where 1,941 Corvettes were sold, sales climbed back over the 2,000 threshold with a month to month gain of 768 Corvettes or 39.6%.

The Bowling Green Assembly Plant is currently in its second week of the planed two-week holiday shut down. According to the plant’s spokesperson, this week’s downtime is being used for performing routine maintenance and some upgrades at the plant.

Chevrolet is continuing to offer several rebates and financing specials on remaining 2016 Corvettes as well as new 2017 models. Current deals include the $1,000 Bonus Cash on Chevy’s Bonus Tag sale. 2017 Corvette buyers can get 4.9% APR financing on all three Corvette models: Stingray, Grand Sport and Z06. 2016 Corvette buyers can get a better deal with 0% APR for 60 months. See your Chevrolet dealership for details.

A New Corvette Could Pack the New LT5

Dec 28, 2016 - 6:16 PM - by TorqueNews

The new GM LT5 is likely to hit the Chevrolet Corvette lineup in one of 3 ways - all of which will be appreciated by lovers of fast cars. Reprinted from with permission.

Yesterday we talked about the arrival of a new LT5 engine for the Chevrolet Corvette in the GM dealer service system and today, I bring you a look at how I am guessing GM could use this new engine – most likely in a new trimline or even the long-rumored mid-engine Corvette.

Based on information which has seemingly been removed from the General Motors dealer service computer system, there is a new LT5 engine coming soon and it will seemingly motivate some variety of the Chevrolet Corvette. It was originally expected that the LT5 would power the next generation Corvette ZR1, but with the simple details of the next LT5 making this mill a bit too mild for the ZR1 – it seems unlikely that this LT5 will be tucked under the hood of the mysterious, masked supercars caught testing around the US.

The Details

All that we really know from the GM dealer service listing is that the new LT5 will be naturally aspirated, it will be all-aluminum, it will feature direct injection, it will measure 6.2 liters and – most importantly – it will be a dual overhead camshaft engine. The last DOHC V8 used by GM was the previous LT5 in the C4 Corvette ZR1, but it is expected that the C8 ZR1 will offer more than 700 horsepower and 700hp from a naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 seems unlikely. Realistically, this engine is more likely to offer power in the range of 500-600 horsepower, and with less power than the LT4 in the Z06, there is a good chance that this will not be the ZR1 engine.

So, if the new LT5 isnt being used for the long-rumored Corvette ZR1, but it is earmarked for use in a Corvette in the computer system information, we are left guessing how this LT5 will fit into the Corvette lineup.

2014 C7s are getting cheap

Dec 16, 2016 - 9:24 PM - by meyerweb
Not good for those who own one, but good for new buyers.

Depreciation can be a real bear sometimes. But, for those of us in the market, it’s a great thing. It means we can find dream cars for affordable prices sometimes. That is certainly becoming the case with the 2014 C7 Corvette Stingray as Jalopnik reports.

Prices for the seventh generation of Chevrolet’s sports car have fallen under $40,000 in many cases with bearable mileage on them to boot.

One listing has a 2014 C7 Corvette Stingray priced at $38,944, and another certified 2014 C7 Corvette Stingray at just $41,000. These aren’t base models either. They’re higher trims with premium audio systems, fancier leather trimmings, navigation and more. Let’s not forget, the 2014 C7 Corvette Stingray is still rocking the same 6.2-liter LT1 V8 engine, which produces a very healthy 460 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque.

Now, potential buyers have a tough choice. Does a used C6 Corvette Z06 fit the bill? Or does springing for the C7 Corvette Stingray sound like a better choice? The market is now in your favor, Corvette dreamers.
