'18 C7's to Get 10 A & 500 HP

That would be terrific news.

I have learned "Tadgespeak" and Harlanspeak." They honestly answer questions at that moment in time. So when asked twice each earlier whether the 10A would fit into a 2017 C7, they answered "no." They were correct and honest, for like all GM employees, Tadge and Harlan want to keep their jobs by not "commenting of potential product."

I was surprisingly able confirm that around that earlier time the 10A was longer than the A6/A8's when, in the middle of Wyoming last July at a small motel the person we coincidentally parked next to/had dinner with, was the Quality Control Engineer at the transmission plant making 7,500,000, 10A's for GM and Ford, when he said, "the 10A transmission is 2" longer than the A6/A8's."

However, in the March issue of Car and Driver states, referring to the A10 in the 2017 ZL1,

For this to now be true, but not true when Tadge and Harlan said it would not fit would last year, would require the latest A10 case/adjacent parts to have been recently re-designed and made shorter.

If the 2018 C7 thus comes with an A10 which is not only faster, but also more fuel efficient than the A8, then GM could easily up the 2018 StingRay's and GS's 500 HP, maybe even 525, and still maintain the same fuel economy.

Of course this thesis is all conjecture based on Car and Driver either getting someone at GM (or the non-GM transmission plant) to inadvertently speak about the latest version of the A10 or they are plain wrong.

The facility will temporarily lay off employees while the changes are being made.

A spokeswoman for the plant said a decision on the exact dates and length of the shutdown hasn’t been made, but that it would likely cover parts of the summer and fall.

The plant employees about 840 hourly workers, along with 165 salaried individuals. The spokeswoman said some employees will be asked to work through the temporary shutdown, with the plant making those decisions based on the facility’s needs.

The Corvette plant is temporarily halting production to install new equipment and make changes to its vehicle production process.

The Bowling Green plant will begin production on the 2018 Corvette once it reopens following the shutdown.
The WKU article has changed the first line of their story from "The Bowling Green General Motors plant is temporarily shutting down later this year to prepare for the production of the next generation Corvette" to "The Bowling Green General Motors plant is temporarily shutting down later this year to make changes to its vehicle production process."

Corvette E-Ray Moving Forward!

Jan 16, 2017 - 11:45 AM - by elegant
Confirmed progress that GM is at least engineering investigating whether we will have a Corvette E-Ray in our future.

During the standard-issue tour, Car Advice spotted something peculiar: a C7 Corvette‘s frame sitting within the lab. According to the report, no other non-hybrid vehicles were seen in the facility. The body shell was stamped with the correct coding, too, “Y1BC”, which is indeed a C7 Corvette’s bones.

Obviously, this lends itself to the idea of a hybrid Corvette in the future. GM also moved to trademark the “Corvette E-Ray” and “E-Ray” names in 2015, leading to speculation over a hybrid-powered Corvette in the future.

However, most of the hybrid speculation has been saved for the C8 Corvette, which has been pegged as a mid-engine successor to the C7 Corvette. It’s been thought the upcoming 2018 C7 Corvette ZR1 would serve as the swan song for a front-engine, rear-wheel drive Corvette before the icon makes the switch to a mid-engine configuration.

But, maybe the Corvette team has a surprise up its sleeve before the C7 is whisked off. Only time will tell.

C8 Confirmed!

Jan 12, 2017 - 12:35 PM - by elegant
Yes, Viriginia, GM's VP of Global Design Michael Simpcoe has confirmed there will be a C8, and that it is one he will personally be the final design authority on.

Speaking to Wheels, Simcoe said there is immense “emotional pressure” surrounding the design of the next-generation Corvette, though he was careful not to give away any specifics.

“You’re dealing with an icon that’s been successful, consistently successful, and you don’t want to be the one who blew that,” said Simcoe.

“Being part of a Corvette design is very exciting for everyone involved and there certainly will be a next generation Corvette at some point.”

Simcoe, who has deep roots with Holden, likened the pressure to one of his most well-known design projects: the top secret, reborn Holden Monaro from the early 2000s.

The C8 Corvette is largely expected to make the switch to a mid-engine configuration, marking a revolutionary change in the Corvette’s lifetime. And for Simcoe, that’s likely no easy task to carry on a legend’s name.
