Transparent roof panel..... TOO HOT for Florida!

    Hi all...
I knew this may happen when I ordered the transparent top back in November. Weather was nice back then, but now here in Southwest Florida it is starting to heat up. 91 today! Used the On-star remote start from the Clubhouse at the golf course and the interior was still an oven when I got inside. Ran it for about 10 minutes and the A/C was set at 70. Crystal red was in the sun for about 5 hours, from 8am till 1pm. I guess I should have ordered the solid top when they told me I would have a long wait for the Carbon Fiber top.

Has anyone seen a shade available for the roof panel? I have seen them for the front windshield but not the roof panel (and ordered one today). I also saw that one of the aftermarket suppliers had one in their catalog for the C6. It was held up with suction cups. This afternoon I cut a piece of cardboard to stick up there for as temporary solution, but this is pretty tacky and I really don't want anyone to see it!

Need some suggestions for the HOT topic!

i bought a rear window screen with suction cups from walmart for about $7 (sun cutter i think) - to put on the transparent roof - and it fits pretty well and cuts out some of the heat from the sun

I just order the solid top and keep the other for cooler weather. I have a solid top and wanted the transparent, glad I didn't get it, but will be ordering it later in the year, I too live in Florida West Coast.

I have been in touch with the manufacturer of the HeatShield for the C7 windshield and they are working on a solution for the transparent panel but it is not ready yet. We get hot here in the desert (have had several 90 degree days already) but perhaps since we lack the humidity of for example Florida, the AC easily cools down the interior quickly. I always use the HeatShield when I park and a Corvette cap when I drive. With the cap blocking any radiant heat from my head, the interior remains very comfortably cool.

That looks interesting. I wonder if it is legitimate. I note it also says it is compatible with the convertibles. Haha! They messed that statement up!

I used Razor Sharp tinting in Venice to do my windows, maybe they can put the clear shield tint to reduce heat.

Might be worth the trip there

Wow.... all great advice and tips! Thank you everyone!

If I go with a second top option, can I purchase the factory carbon fiber one yet from my Chevy Stealership?

And Glen..... where can I purchase that 3M stuff you mention? On-line, Auto-zone?, body shops??

Maybe I should give that "sun blocker" that BluRay mentions a try? Worth a $30 experiment?

Thanks again everyone.... Time to toss out my cut-up Amazon cardboard box!

    Hey Ronkh....
Razor Sharp did mine too! I asked him about the roof panel and he said he can't do the roof panel for some reason.

When I checked into getting the panel tinted when the windows were done I was informed that it can not be done. None of the materials used for tinting will properly adhere to the panel. As to the ebay static cling material, I have heard of a similar application done with older Vettes so it may in fact be legit. Be nice to know if someone actually has gotten it for their C7 and found it to work.

The ebay price is pretty reasonable considering the cost of the base film. You could buy a large roll and cut it yourself but you aren't saving much.

Ahhh Rotunda. Golf down there every so often.
No.... I did not do xpel. I have the GM mask (which I hate) for our lovely love bug friends! Will be removed after the lovebug season.

Were you at the Venice "Corvettes on the Isle" show back in March?
