Anyone know if a raffle for something like this for a good cause can be considered a charitable contribution on your taxes? I wouldn't mind buying a ticket, but I think the wife might frown if we can't claim it. I mean whoever wins the car has to claim it on their taxes. Should work both ways?

Dear Concerned Citizen,

You may have heard of this fund-raising organization. If not, let me enlighten you.

The Patty Pollatos Fund, Inc. is a 501-c-3 and was established in memory of Patty Pollatos who died of cancer on September 18, 1992. Patty lived in the New Market/Mt. Airy area all of her life. Because of this disease, Patty was financially devastated and about to lose her house. All she wanted was to die with dignity in her home with her family. I organized a fundraiser with her family and friends and in 30 days we raised $20,000.00 to honor Patty’s wish. She was a fighter and an inspiration to all of us.

It’s hard to put into words what happened to me after Patty’s death. I do know that God called me to fundraising to praise him and honor Patty. I have tried to be obedient and pray that I have ears to hear and eyes to see where my Heavenly Father leads me.

Our organization is 100% volunteer. No money given to the PPF, Inc. for any charity or group will be earmarked for salaries.

Our mission is to raise money for needy cancer victims, Alzheimer’s, Heartly House, Red Cross, Scholarship money for our youth and other worthy charities in the Frederick and surrounding areas. We are proud that through the dedication and generosity of many, to date millions have been raised for the Frederick County Community. This does not count the materials, services and labor donated by local businesses for our fundraising efforts. 100% of all money raised is going back into the community. There is no overhead because everything that is needed to put on our fundraisers is donated.

Other annual fundraisers are J Bar W Ranch Rodeos, as well as the The Jim Grimes Boss Hoss Cycles & Trikes of Frederick, IBR Bull Riding Extravaganza , and our newest fundraiser Family Fundraiser FUNomenon at the Frederick Fair Grounds.

If you would like to donate your time, services or money to any of the above events please e-mail us any time. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many volunteers and business that have already become a part of this wonderful calling.

One person can make a difference: together we can change the world. May you always allow God to be with you and listen for your calling. He is always knocking.

Sincerely,

Debbie Williams

Now let me tell you why I got involved...Jim Sell was a Wash DC Police officer and after he got injured on the job 30 yrs ago he started selling cars. He was everyone's buddy.
You may have seen the movie "Borat"...well that was my long time friend that handled a very difficult situation when Borat came to Criswell to film what he claimed was a documentary.

Jim's scene started showing Borat a Hummer but eventually he divulged he was looking to spend $500...so Borat ends up with an old ice cream truck. "Borat" the movie was released November 2006. Jim would always pose for pictures around the dealership with any customer that wished for a selfie with him. August 30th 2012 Jim was heading in to work and didn't feel right. His wife sent him to the Dr's and they diagnosed Brain Cancer. Jim passed away(61 yrs young) October 2012 and all the folks at Criswell raised $15,000 for Jim's wife and the Patty Pollatos organization matched it dollar for dollar!! Mr Criswell donated the Torch Red Stingray Convt in Jim's memory...we miss him and think of him just like a loved one of our own family.

I can't begin to tell you what a great guy Jim Sell was. I miss him terribly. Never a bad word about anyone and always was quick witted and funny. He could have ran for Mayor of Hagerstown, MD where he resided because Jim knew everyone and everyone knew Jim. This foundation does great work and we are honored to work for them to raise funds for such a great cause. Patty Pollatos Fund, Inc. - Patty Pollatos Fund

It seems that the Corvette forum doesn't allow this type of thread. CF removed it.

That is unfortunate and short sighted on their part Mike. Certainly hope The Patty Pollatos Fund, Inc. reaches their quota on this.

Loved Jim Sell in that movie. Didn't realize he actually worked for Criswell. So that was filmed there?
Yes it was filmed right on site. They came in saying it was a documentary. It's the old showroom before the renovation two yrs ago.

see you tube video

Thank you to all that have purchased tickets. Please spread the word to your friends and fellow Corvette club members. Only 1,000 tickets to be sold so the odds are tremendous!!
