Is there potentially an issue with the sensor on the clutch pedal?

 

Thank you for the advice. I am not aware of how to check the sensor on the clutch pedal . I can shift into all 7 gears, but it will not shift into reverse regardless if the engine is running or not.

 

There is an interlock that prevents you from shifting into reverse if the car is moving about a certain speed. This is both electric for the sensor and mechanical on the shifter. It is similar to the interlock that prevents you from shifting into gear on an automatic without depressing the brake.

A couple of questions. Does the gear indicator on the dash display all seven gears as you shift into them? If not the maybe you have something as simple as a bad connection. There are error code so I would expect a Check Engine Light (CEL). The replacement of this sensor is straightforward but does require a lot of equipment and time. If you have the equipment to lift the car and look at the sensor it might give you a clue. There are videos on you tube on the entire process.

I Checked to see if the dash indicated all the gears from 1 to 7. It did indicate each of the 7 gears as I shifted. There is a Check engine light glowing.

 

That is actually good new. Invest in an expensive code reader and find out what the code is. This will tell you where to start. Good luck.

One of neighbors read that by disconnecting the negative cable for approxamatly 15 minutes might help. I did that & it worked.

Removing the battery cable clears the DTC but does not solve what caused the fault in the first place. Sometimes these are just ghosts but sometimes they come back.

 

I thought that also. I expect the problem is more serious than such a simple fix. Thanks again for your input.
