This may be a dumb or previously answered question but is the 2015 non-z06 corvette going to be referred to as a stingray?

I heard a rumor that there will still be the stingray, but also a cheaper 15 C7 that will not be carry the stingray name, and will be cheaper. I hope this is not the case, because I'd then probably get the cheaper one even though my heart would want the stingray level. Haha. Can anyone she'd some light on the situation?

It wouldn't make sense for GM to spend a ton of money on advertising and marketing the stingray name which has a strong past history to use it for only 1year. The name should be around until at least C8.

If there is the rumored "Corvette stripper" model -- which I highly doubt, then there would be three "levels," the "Corvette," the "StingRay," and the Z06. The StingRay name will exist right through the entire C7 run.

We all remember the failed 1999 and 2000 "hardtop coupes." Sales started out at 4,000 units the first, dropped to half that in the second year. To go with a 5.5L smaller motor involves, as a minimum extensive certification tests, both IIHS and EPA testing. If there would be a smaller motor, then what about a lesser capability trans, smaller brakes, less expensive diff, etc. The development and testing costs to reduce the price even $5K per units would be tens of millions of dollars, perhaps more.

Perhaps a completely decontented interior, with vinyl seats, no infotainment display screens, nor similar amenities, but would more than a few pay $45K for a Corvette without those amenities, certainly not if hand-crank windows, no power door locks, etc. In fact, most $30K cars, have most/all of the above (except leather seats) including Bluetooth and twenty five other "standard amenities." Not thinking we will have a "below StingRay" C7.

it's on the build sheet. you can get floor mats with either the "Corvette " or "Stingray" , door sills, same thing, cargo mat, same thing, body badging, etc. So, hopefully, it will show up w/out them.
perhaps I'm wrong, but I hope not. This car is going to get highly modified, so I started off with a 1LT w/ z51, and that's pretty much it.
