Since this has been a hot topic as of late I thought I'd write up some quick thoughts after a solid 200 mile day of NE Missouri two-lane blacktop driving. It isn't a road course but I'll wager that red1996lt4 will back me up in saying it is a great collection of blind corners and elevation changes through rolling hills. The A8 functioned perfectly through the entire thrashing I gave it. Smooth, fast, and never once in the wrong gear. I found no need to use the paddle shifters. Transmission temps remained well under control. So far - good design and good fun.

Update - I've been meaning to toss this down in text for a while. It is in fact just the opposite of the control you have with a M7. I'd classify it more like riding a horse than normal driving - it has a mind of its own. Once you get out of Touring mode and start to play it responds in kind. It is a devilish thing that dares you to thrash it, hit that corner harder, and partner with it. It is a bit of an odd experience but exhilarating.

I'm really really looking forward to it. Can't wait, but have to as the result of delays (Currently constrained) in the Z06 ordering. But someday in the not too distant future I'll have my day with it. Just have to remember to go easy on it during the break-in period. Engine, trans and breaks....

Like that analogy of riding a horse, where the horse gets to make some decisions too.

Reminds me of my flight instructor. Whenever I was "over controlling" the plane he'd say "Let the plane fly itself, it has way more experience than you."
Good one LT1xL82, mine also had a saying "Learning to fly is like drinking from a fire hose".

I'm curious to see how it holds up to abuse and modding. All seems great when new :)
One thing I did notice is that it cools down quickly with normal driving. On a 50 degree day the temps ran a bit over 110F.
as with anything mechanical, im certain that it only performs at higher levels the more you use and abuse it. also, great idea to try some mods to see if they intentionally set it to underperform, as designed.
