Installed an optional GM Stingray Sill Plate in replace of the Corvette plate that comes with the C7. Adding to the Stingray Image also installed 5/16 inch thick pile Lloyds Stingray image and Script floor mats. This is a much thicker pile than the standard mats or those available as aftermarket from GM. To match the Stingray theme and to protect the Key FOB from accidental lose, added a FOB cover with a Stingray key chain. A poster noted they had a FOB on a key ring and found the FOB had been lost when the emergency key had detached inadvertently. Had my key separate by accident but fortunately did not lose my FOB when it happened. With the high cost of a new FOB this silicon FOB cover locks both together and is well worth the small price. It’s available in a number of colors. Details on a PDF at netwelding.com/reports_vette_info.htm

Use a non marring pry tool that you can get at most automotive stores or harbor freight, pop the old one off and pop the new one on. It is a 5 minute job including two minutes of sweating getting the first one off. Just keep moving the tool around the panel as the clips pop off. The new plate comes with the mounting clips already attached, so it is plug and play.

Start at one endge and use a plastic trim tool or in fact, since the gap is so small a screw driver wrapped with tape should work. Becasue the gap was so small, I still put tape on the painted sill even with the trim tool I used. See my PDF of the install that includes the instructions that came with the new ones. Once you get started you can get your fingeres under the sill plate and pull slowly to remove all 7 clips. If you want to sell the used ones on Ebay you can get them off without bending.

As always, Jerry U provides helpful and time saving info to the forum.

Thanks Jerry.

I was interested in the FOB cover, but didn't see a vendor mentioned (here on on netwelding). A quick Google located this supplier:

Thanks! I was lucky, my FOB fell off in my pocket! Unlike my C6 were the emergency key was difficult to remove, with the C7 it comes out very easy! Just touching the release button is enough. If you have attached with other keys I can see why it could fall off and if at a mall etc you can lose it. This silicon cover fits light, leaves the buttons exposed but goes over the corners of the key and prevents it from separating. Good investment.

I looked that those FOB covers ... was going to get 2 (with different colors) so my wife could find her's in her purse :p and one for me to protect it from being dropped on a concrete floor, which I've done in the past. The $8 price seemed reasonable and shipping was free. Figured that I would wait for the car first (been waiting since it was built on 5/30!!!) to be delivered to the dealer. Was not sure it would fit properly. Appears it fits fine. May go ahead and order.

For the coupe does it cover the hatch button? If yes is it easy to still use the fob to open the hatch?

That's about the only time I take the fob out of my pocket is to open the hatch.

I ordered the fob covers! Blue for my hubby and red so I could find mine in the bottom of my purse easier. ;)
