Sales of the 2014 Corvette StingRay have now been expanded to all of Chevrolet's approximate 3,000 dealers, i.e., it is no longer limited to original 900 dealers that had allocation since the beginning of this model year. This is being reported in Autoworldnews.com.

IF: The remaining dealers purchase the StingRay's required specific tools, and IF: They send two of the dealership's personnel to a one-and-a-half day training session at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch in Pahrump, Nevada.

Autoworldnews said:
Chevrolet has expanded the number of dealers that will sell the 2014 Corvette Stingray. Its remaining 2,100 dealers will now carry the redesigned sports vehicle, according to a company press release.

Chevrolet originally limited sales to just 900 dealers when the Corvette Stingray went on sale in September, meaning those dealers accounted for approximately 80 percent of all Corvette sales.

A dealer had to sell at least four Corvettes during 2012 to be eligible to sell the 2014 model.

"They are (now) all eligible and it is up to them to decide if they want to participate," Chevrolet spokesman Monte Doranaid to Edmunds.

There are approximately 3,000 Chevrolet dealers in the U.S.

Each dealer has to meet the same requirements however. Requirements include a one-and-a-half day training session at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch in Pahrump, Nevada.

The program costs $2,000 per person, not including travel expenses.

"As a dealer, you have to agree to specific criteria that includes sales and service training requirements," Doran said.

Chevrolet has sold approximately 7,000 Corvette Stingrays through the end of November.

Doran said Corvette Stingray distribution is limited and based on an allotment program created for each dealer.

"It really depends on where the dealer is," he said. "Some dealers are in markets where there is not a huge demand for a two-seat, rear-wheel-drive, high performance car.

Some dealers bring in the new Corvette just to get people to stop by, and even if they don't purchase it, they could be convinced to get another car.

I wonder how many cars these new dealerships would be allotted?

That's a very good question. Perhaps they will only allow the "new" dealerships to order StingRays without a single constraint (until constraints are eliminated), and might they assign these new non-constrained orders a "lower comparative priority" compared to similar, non-constrained orders coming from the 900 initial-allocation dealers? Do not know that for a fact, just conjecturing....

But they still have to have an allotment to place an order. GM works on an allotment system for all cars, not just Corvettes. So, the big question is how long will it take for GM to start issuing allotments to the 2100 dealers that did not sell enough to quality to be in the first 900, and how many will they actually get? My opinion is if you have not ordered one yet, you still are better off staying with a large Vette volume dealer. JMO

One of the other things to consider is if you want a small dealer using your car as one of their first few guinea pigs for how to do a PDI. Also, if their technicians have not been exposed to many new Corvettes, they may take a joy ride when prepping your car for delivery.

Tools, 4K in the driving experience, 1K in travel expenses, Sales training, etc.... It adds up. I'm glad we were one of the original 900.

I certainly agree it is fantastic being in the 'early adopters'-- I have zero regrets and a non-stop smile on my face driving RedHot.
