Friends,

After reading someone's comments having to do with excessive orange peel and a suggestion that C7 owners with paint issues join together to notify GM of their issues, I took it upon myself to start a petition towards that end.

This thread is not intended to be a forum for bashing GM, but a vehicle for making our voices heard regarding any paint issues that we have personally seen or experienced. Please do not use this thread for ranting or flaming GM. The sole intent of this post and the petition is for the purpose of informing GM of our concerns.

If you have no complaints regarding paint quality, move along. If you are a current owner or a potential future owner, feel free to sign the petition. There is also a place on the petition for comments.

Once the petition reaches 100 signatures, GM will be made aware of it. Signatures can continue to be added beyond that point, but the threshold for notification is 100.

Here is the link to the petition:

http://www.change.org/petitions/general-motors-improve-the-quality-of-the-paint-on-the-2014-corvette-stingray

I also want to go on the record as saying that I am grateful for the attention GM placed on correcting my paint issues. They were excessive and far beyond your basic orange peel issues. However, as some have recently experienced orange peel, paint runs, and thin paint on more recently delivered Corvettes, I feel that a petition is a reasonable medium for making GM aware of the issues we are continuing to see. I personally saw a new black convertible in a dealership recently that had a terrible amount of orange peel. I have seen other black Corvettes with very little orange peel. Hopefully our united voices will make a difference.

Hopefully none of the petitioners who have paint issues have applied aftermarket clearcoat sealent/waxes in non-conformity with the instruction on page 10-69 of the owners manual which states: "Application of aftermarket clearcoat sealent/wax materials is not recommended". Seems to be a popular thing to do. I PMd GM Customer Service about this and they advised it could affect paint warranty. I posted that info on another thread a while back. I have no issues with paint on my C7.

Thanks for the post! And I'm glad you have no issues. :)

Jeremy, every one I have seen has orange peel, with some much worse than others. My dealer was up-front saying it is what it is, and I need to have my expectations set accordingly or I may be disappointed when mine eventually arrives. I have thought about this, and decided I will go through with my 2015 order. On the other hand, the dealer agrees that if it is excessive (much worse than average), or with runs, et cetera, we will work with Chevy if and when that happens. We will just have to wait and see what my exact one looks like when it gets here (but the average isn't great - and I have seen a lot of them).

On the other hand, if you can get their attention a-priori with a petition, I am all in for that!

By the way, I know you had a long story about your history with these paint issues. We are still waiting to hear about it. Isn't this thread a great place to now share the details of what happened, and how you worked with GM to successfully resolve it?

Yes, every new car will have some orange peel. The problem, to me, is that some have very little while some look like they have the surface of a golf ball. If I ordered one and the orange peel was excessive, I would refuse delivery and order another one. But that's me. Hopefully, yours will arrive with minimal OP and you'll be happy.

Oh, shoot! I'm sorry I forgot to post about that. I'm at work now and it will probably take about 30 minutes for me to put together a proper post. But I will do that as soon as possible.

Thanks, Jeremy. From the ones I have seen, only one was to the point that I would have refused delivery. But all of them had it to varying degrees.

Is this problem more prevalent on some colors? Mine is Blade Silver Metallic and I can't see any problems no matter how close I look, what the light conditions are or what angle I view. It just gleams.

Yes, different colors paint in different ways. By the way, I have not seen a Blade Silver StingRay in person. They sure look great in photographs, however!

I've closely inspected the paint on more than 100 C7s, and while orange peel is easier to see on dark colors, the levels of orange peel are inconsistent regardless of color. The black vert I recently saw at a local dealership has the worst orange peel by far of any black C7 I have seen. I have also seen a photo of a blade silver C7 that had a different shade of silver on one of the panels.

Individual cases depend on how good your service manager and regional manager are. It has been done in some cases.
