Climate controlled Storage Opinions

I may possibly buy a C7 before the end of the year to take advantage of some great pricing. I may store the car in a climate controlled storage unit until winter breaks here in Ohio.

I have done a lot of research and I am familiar with cold storage protocol for an unheated house garage. But if storing climate controlled in a 10 x 20 unit, will I need to bag her up in a car jacket, carpet the floor, mothball it, steel wool the exhaust and the other precautions or just pull her in the unit with the trickle charger?

I haven't stored a car over the winter in 30 years, and just pulled it in and let it sit back then. :witless:

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Too many unspecified variables in your question. If there is the possibility of critters getting in, then you should take the appropriate precautions mentioned in other posts. You should definitely use a product like Sta-Bil in your tank. You should use a maintainer like the CTEK 3300. Bring the tire pressures up to reduce the flat spotting, again per other posts recommendations.

Thanks for all the good info, JS. I would say no critters, and I will definitely use the Sta-Bil. I'm guessing the CTEK 3300 works the same as the factory Battery Protection Package. Is that correct? I guess the core of my question would be if experienced owners who regularly store their cars do things differently, in general, in a climate controlled environment than they would in an unheated garage. Is it best to enclose the car (car jacket) or just put the factory cover on it and let it sit? I don't want to do anything, with good intentions, that may be counter productive. I'll try my best to account for any variables that may be specific to my storage situation.

Call me paranoid, but this is my first Vette and I don't want to screw anything up.

Yes the OEM factory Battery Protection Package is a maintainer made by CTEK for GM with the Stingray logo. Again if it is a fairly weather tight unit, dust should be minimal.

By the way, since this is your thread, I hope it is okay to hijack it. You indicate that you are in Ohio. What city are you in? I lived in Columbus and Dublin while I was a student at Ohio State. Also, I see that you have only recently joined the forum. So, "Welcome to the forum!"

Unless by 'start it every couple weeks and carry on' you mean to take it out and drive it until all fluids reach full operating temperature, that is clearly not recommended for the C7 or any other gas engine vehicle. Starting and idling will do more harm than good. This has been discussed on a number of our other threads talking about having to put one's car up for the winter.
