I was watching the TUDOR (SP?) race yesterday and got the tail end of a comment that the race series organizers have made the Corvette team add weight to their cars -- the way the announcers were discussing it -- and again I only caught the end of their discussion -- was that the C7s were so successful early on in this years series that the organizers made them add weight to slow the Corvettes down.

Does anyone have any details on this or is it just a figment of my imagination?

Most likely it's a BOP (Balance of Performance) adjustment by IMSA.

They change rules for individual cars to equalize performance.

1. Add or Subtract Weight
2. Add or subtract inlet air size
3. adjusts spoiler / wing size

There may be others but you get the idea.

Thank you for the insight - I don't mean to sound like too much of a C7 homer, but from the way the field was running away from the Vettes, the scale of competitive balance has swung in the way wrong direction.

Yes, Corvette Racing received a "Balance of Performance" adjustment prior to the Indy race and they have been playing catch up ever since.

but they will still be hampered by the IMSA balance of performance additional weight adjustment imposed on them prior to Indianapolis. In addition, the Ferrari team which won the last event at Road America, the Porsche team and the BMW team were all given favorable balance of performance adjustments that should equate to more speed on the track. The Corvette team was the only team that in the GTLM class that received adjustments designed to slow them down.

I agree. Ever since the "adjustment", the C7Rs have been down the grid in qualifying. Why don't they just make it a spec series like Indycar?
