i placed an order for a 2014 sting ray and i was told that the Z/51 package was on constraint,i figured that when it was off constraint i could have the dealer add it to my car which is still not being built. althopugh i have an order number/letters it still is not at this moment in production. knowing that i would be sorry if i receive this car and i dont have the z/51 package i will regret it i called the dealer.and told my salesperson that there are two options one i dont buy a car and two take my 1000 dollar deposit and put it towards a 2015. he said he cant give me an answer til he talks to the owner and i anticipate they are going to keep my deposit if they can is it legal for them to keep my deposit ??? any help would be appreciated thanks

Is the deposit slip you received say refundable deposit? It should ......
Mine does 100 percent refundable deposit even if its built and suddenly I change my mind I get it back.

I buy new cars almost every year and many custom orders. I've never seen dealer keep deposit. That's bad business as they can sell the car. And especially if car hasn't been built yet there should be no problem getting full refund. He won't have any problems selling it.

My dealer made it clear to me the deposit was absolutely refundable if I decided not to purchase the vehicle.
I was aware the Z51 option was on Constraint, but was told they felt it would not be as dire as these posts are claiming, i.e. a delay until 2015 models, but more like 4 weeks. I am patient, but also have not been able to see my order as the message on Chevrolet.com indicates the order tracker service is temporarily unavailable. A system overload or Chevy telling us they having production issues? In either case, it takes one back to the management ineptitude that put GM in bankruptcy a few years back. Not very confidence building...

I agree with Chip, get the car you want. 3rd option is search to see if a dealer has ordered a car that has what you want. There arn't that many color combinations or options.

riggzy; Get the car you want and don't put too much energy into worrying about how long it will take to get it. I think you will find that the wait will be worthwhile!
X2 Agree don't settle......Get what you want! and check other lots.

I put a "refundable" deposit down with 3 different dealerships, before I lucked out. When I canceled with the other 2, one said they wouldn't refund my deposit even though I had it in writing... I had email proof it was refundable. SOOOOO I contacted my credit card company who credited my card then "they" went after the dealership. It worked. Got my moolah back and the credit card company got reimbursed. I do agree it's worth the wait to get exactly what you want. I have a 2lt coupe and love it! Didn't get Z51, don't mind that I didn't. For me it's less to repair.

Unless the dealer has some legal binding document that you signed, i.e. a contract etc... Then the deposit is refundable.

I work for a DFW dealer and deposits are completely refundable. There is no legal recourse to hold the deposit.
