Hey everyone,

I had emblems replaced from the chrome to the black ones. The guy used a heat gun and heated up the rear emblem. He had his hand on both sides to make sure it didn't get too hot. I'm assuming light pressure from time to time as for balance. He wasn't sitting in a chair or anything. I'm wondering if with constant/inconsistent pressure and possibly heating up the area it could dent? There are two and not symmetrical. They are to the left and to the right of the rear emblem. There is no paint damage whatsoever. Please let me know what you guys think for the easiest way to repair and if that could have caused it? I'm a novice with the car and assume the rear is fiberglass as I have read so it shouldn't have dented.

Thanks in advance for any help!

And... You're certain they weren't there already? In the future, you don't need heat to take them off just some fishing line or dental floss will saw thru the adhesive, then some mineral spirits, WD40 or even a little gas will remove the rest of the glue.

I'm almost positive I would have noticed them but can't be 100%. I looked at that area many times trying to imagine how it would look without the corvette lettering and a black corvette symbol instead of the Carbon Flash one. I've washed the car about 6 times and waxed it twice in the three months I've owned it. I don't see how I would have missed it. Any idea on how the Fiberglass would dent when everyone says it won't dent?

The front and rear fascas are NOT fiberglass of any kind, but a flexible urethane compound. Just like any other cars on the road today, to meet federal low-speed impact requirements. Some variance from car to car might be expected, but I have yet to see any with "dents" as you describe, unless damaged from impact or heat & pressure. I get the impression the guy swapping emblems for you got the fascia too warm, causing the material to stretch just enough to be noticable. Nit sure how you can repair it, short of replacing the piece. But that opens a whole different can of worms!

Please use the chain link fence as a frame of reference. It was very difficult to photograph. It's not the easiest to see as there is no paint cracks. Thanks!

MasterGTS, you might want to leave your car with the rear facing into the sun for a while and see if that minimizes the slight depressions. You also might find after a week that, while you obviously know they are there, they aren't that objectionable as they currently seem to you. It is always upsetting to find something like that on our C7s, but when you and others look at the entire car and its beautiful lines, hopefully it becomes less an issue.

The chainlink fence really helps locate your trouble spots. The one to the driver side is fairly subtle, but the one on the passenger side is quite noticable. I agree, it sure looks like heat warpage to me. Very much resembles the rippling that would occur on '70s cars that were in hot climates or in the sun a lot. The urethane back then was a different formula than today's, but even so, today's fascias will still warp under high heat, often before paint damage is visible.

MasterGTS, welcome aboard. I've studied the pictures and I can hardly see the dimple on the drivers side, the passenger side is more apparent with the help of the chain link fence for a reference point. Like Jeff posted let it sit in the sun and hopefully the the dimple repairs itself. Hope you get it squared away and back to 120%

Looks like bumper cover got too hot and pliable .. and those two dents are where the buffoon who used heat to remove them put his knuckles for leverage and stretched it.

Took it to get looked at and they said it's urethane as well and it looks like the pivot point of either a tool or a hand to pry and once heated it did that. They then saw something I didn't either. The front was chipped too!=( I hired someone so I could avoid making these mistakes myself. I hope he owns up to it. I'm going to take it to the dealership soon to have them quote it as I'll have them do the work. I can't not have it fixed as I just got the car and other than that, it's mint:(

That break/chip is unfortunate. Hope the individual steps up to the plate and agrees to fully cover repair cost.

Received an email saying he was going to make sure it's taken care of 100% which is comforting. I will post when everything is resolved. Need to get another quote from where I want it repaired. I would highly recommend against using heat to remove emblems on our cars due to the materials.

Issue is resolved. I received a check for the damage so luckily they followed through. Good business person to do that and learn from their mistakes. I hope this saves at least one person from using a heat gun to remove emblems or telling who they hire to not use a heat gun or else this can happen.
