Wanted to send a shout out to glen_e for all of his trips and tricks on detailing. I dedicated my Sat to go through the process and am very happy with the results. The shine is ~2x what it was before and will never take my car into the shop for detailing services again. I'm going to start on my wife's car next.

In short:

1) Striped car using Dawn dish washing soap
2) Sponged using Speedy Prep Sponge (like claying except using a sponge)
3) Polished using orbital sander and Blackfire Total Polish Seal
4) Sealed using Blackfire Crystal Seal
5) Have a beer and enjoy!

The whole process took me about 4 hours. Well the beer part continued for a few more hours but who's counting ;)

Thanks again to this forum for the abundance of info and a special thanks to glen_e!

congrats!! - but I cringe at you using an "orbital sander"...LOL - it's an orbital polisher!!!

Nice spending time with you over the phone....

guys, I see all the time that people spent "the day" detailing their car, it used to be that way, but with new products, no way - easily a 3-4 hour job now....

Glen,
I noticed online that there is more than one type of Speedy sponge. Which one did you use?

The griots is the one to get,it has more power and warrantee that the porter cable...if you want to spend more, the flex and the rupes are a step up but are used by guys using them every day.

Get educated by going to autogeek.net and reading and looking at the "how-to videos" on using an orbital , polishing and waxing.

The flex is very nice but overkill if you are using it just for a new Vette. It's for heavy duty correction but is a great unit. I own a flex rotary.

Look,at the first post here, he followed a document I sent him with step by step directions...you want it, PM ME WITH YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS.

Pur a sealant on your wheels. Makes cleaning them much easier.
