We were out cruising around in the Vette yesterday, minding our own business with the cruise set at 65 mph, when a diesel pick-up passed us on the driver side.

You know the type, jacked up to the sky, rusted out, loud exhaust, and a Richard Cranium in the driver's seat.

Anyway, this d**chebag proceeded to floor it, filling the both lanes with smoke so I couldn't see. I backed off.

Then this DB slowed down and did it again. I backed off again.

Once the smoke cleared, I floored it, passed him with the one finger salute, got ahead of him and into the left lane. The vehicle I caught up to saw what went on and decided to stay beside me so the idiot couldn't pass us.

This happened before back in May up in Charles City. A different DB in a different truck.

Anyone else ever run into these type of DB's before?

I hope you passed him in track mode with the performance exhaust selected. Can't wait to do that to someone who tries to intimidate me in a POS truck.

Years ago, I had a 5 cylinder Mercedes turbodiesel that could make a black cloud on command. It was a great way to let left lane hogs know that their driving habits were not appreciated.

Modern diesels have catalysts and diesel particulate filters, and if left in stock condition, create no smoke at all. But it sounds like you ran into someone with a 20 year old Cummins.

Those over boosted, jacked up turbo diesel trucks you describe here in Texas can create massive amounts of smoke. Oh, and the 8-10" diameter exhaust tips are about as silly as it gets.

Had one smoke bomb me with the window down the other day.

This is what they call "coal rolling"

They're usually uneducated ********, who get pissed off that some people are trying to reduce their vehicle's emissions. They usually target hybrids. Assholes.

I'm glad you showed the guy up. What an idiot.

Z51, you described almost to the tee, the opening scene of one of my favorite Christmas movies. National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. Although they didn't smoke them out much, your description of the "********" and their rusty old beater truck brought that scene back to my mind. Sounds like your outcome was better than Chevy Chase's Taurus wagon and their snow launch. The paranoia thoughts I would have had at the time was that they may throw something destructive out the window at my Corvette so I would have given them a wide birth after taking their picture (or even pretended to) with my smart phone. Glad you came out of it unharmed.

I wonder if we should get the PDR option just so we can show stuff like that, along with the plate number to the cops.
I had a guy throw a water bottle at me a couple of months ago. His girlfriend must have thrown it. I actually caught it as it bounced into the car at head level. I got his plate number and gave it to a cop. Nothing happened. Pretty hard to prove.

Those folks doing those antics are either threatened or jealous. Nothing we can do, except "get out of there."

I just punched rolling coal into youtube search. I'm always just a little bit fascinated at how our fine young citizens manage to lower the evolutionary bar yet once again. When I read Z51Stingray's original post, I wanted to believe it was just bad timing/coincidence.:(

Just think, these same idiots will be running the country when they finally grow up.

Maybe, just maybe you should invest in a quarter pound box of roofing nails in the "secret compartment" and "accidentally" toss them over the shoulder after you have passed him. Thats what your supposed to do with salt…..right!!!!!!!!

Oh man it's those coal-rolling, inbred imbeciles. Yeah I'm glad I don't see that stuff here in Columbus, it's embarrassing that this is even a thing. I actually can't believe it's not in violation of some sort of regulations. Manufacturers have to have a certain MPG across their fleet but you can modify your car to emit these sorts of pollutants and carcinogens -- it's wild. That these people are unbelievable -------- goes without saying.
