I put a bit of a warning up because most will never want to see their car like this. I spent a good part of yesterday and a little bit of today to tear down, create a temp. fix and put back together.

Now there is some good and alot of bad that will come along with this.

First things first, This is no where near as simple of an install as the c6 was and I don't ever forsee there being a "cheat" to bypass this either. So I'll start with saying that you will have to remove the entire dash(worse than even doing a camaro) to even get to the HUD projector location. Thats not really the bad part. The bad part is the dash that comes with a 1LT is not the same as a 2LT or 3LT. There is not a simple pop out like c6 had or even perforations like the c5 had.

Here is the low down, I had to actually take measurements and use a drimmel to cut out the hole for the projector to project through. I then had to devise a bezel. With there being a different dash for the 2lt and up I ended up using a highly modified c6 dash bezel to hide the cut hole and still give it a decent appearance. This is a temp. fix until I can make a nice looking bezel or price of dashes come down.

So pricing break downs for those wanting HUD from a 1LT standpoint:
HUD projector: Around $500
HUD switch: around $30
Dash if not cutting: Around $800+ shipping (freight)
Harness: I can't give the cost on that as I'm still working on it and there are 2 harnesses instead of the 1 for the c6
Labor: There is alot of labor to this. I had the Dash completely out in around 3 hours with out ever doing it before. It took me 4 times as long to put it back together because it's like a puzzle and if you don't put the right pieces back in the right order they won't fit right and you'll have to take apart ...

Here are some photos of the build, destroy, modify and Fix.

Why not get the 2LT model it comes with the hud.
With all the expense and time it would have been cheaper and finished nicely.

It does affect warranty if what he has done caused the problem or fault.
Like if his airbags failed to work because of what he did or some computer malfunction or what have you.

I've installed over 200 HUD units in the Corvette c6 and in Camaro 5th generations. I'm a bit experienced in this. I bought the car for the sole purpose of adding HUD to it.

Andrew, sorry to hear this is such a pain! I hope you can streamline the process (at least the removal/install) a bit because using your your numbers above and typical shop labor rates, you'd be well on your way to the cost of the 2LT while only getting one feature. Doesn't seem very economically sound for you. Good luck, I think everyone should have a HUD!

Maybe you can become an expert at installing the 2015 data/video recording systems, that may go easier!

I've done over 250 HUD installs in the c6 and in Camaros. This is by far the most time consuming HUD install I've ever done. I'd recommend if you want it get a 2LT otherwise you'll be paying out the yin yang later.

Anyone know if it's possible to install a nav/ PDR system in a 2016 Z06? Mine was just delivered to the dealer, and turns out it doesn't have in when it should've! I didn't pay close enough attention to the faxed order sheet and missed that the PDR/ Nav wasn't circled, and the dealer was lax in making sure what I wanted was ordered properly. I'm sick that it came in without it! Can it be installed after the fact...somewhat reasonable?? Hope someone knows the answer to this!

I'm hearing the voice of the BG Factory tour guide who said the C7 is literally built around the dashboard. It's the first thing attached to the frame. He also said if a dealer wants to fix something, anything, and it requires pulling the dash, you better beware, it's brain doesn't like being messed with!

Good thing Andrew's done this before and it sounds like he doesn't recommend it either!

Again what ever makes you happy. I guess ventilated seats might be nice but I only drive my Vette from mid April to the end of Oct. so heated seats for me are not needed. I had a lot of 2LT equipment on my '98 and '04 Vettes that I never used: HUD, memory (I'm the only one that drives it), cargo shade and net, etc. I like my black interior so to the untrained eye, not much difference visually. Plus I love the look of the ZF1 package and that's where I chose to spend my money.

I've never understood the big deal about HUD.
Each to their own. I use the HUD as a driving aid and rarely look down to the dash. My first car with HUD was my Cadillac and the Vette C7 version is far improved in terms of visibility and clarity.

To do an oem you'll have to replace the driver behind the passenger side and the head unit it self. I have heard that you can download an app. and it will work as navi but haven't ever looked more into it. This happened to us on my wifes 2014 Impala LTZ that said navi but only had turn by turn.
