Non Z-51 with 7 speed manual...So I am cruising on freeway at 70 mph in 6th gear. I decide to open it up when traffic breaks and put the accelerator to the floor. I was expecting a burst of speed but the car just accelerated gradually up to 90. Is this normal?

Time for that driving course at Spring Mountain ;-). Think you were about 3 gears too high if you wanted the car to really jump-just sayin'

I am attending the course in August. This is my first manual tranny in a few years. Got used to my auto Lexus which would jump when you hit the throttle even at cruising speeds. Guess I need to remember to shift down when I want to hit a quick warp speed!

If you are in a high gear, the RPMs are low. You have to downshift to get higher RPMs so you are in a better place on the torque curve. That extra torque is what will give high acceleration.

Downshift and punch it.

Your automatic did the downshift for you, we used to call it passing gear. With the manual you have to do it yourself...but then again that's why its called a manual... :)

Switching to Sport mode (NPP equipped) with Rev Match active for the drop to third is sure to impress the car(s) you're passing, as well as you! :)

+1. Can go to 3rd or practice with the shifter 6th to 5th to 4th if you want to start out conservatively. I find the gear selector indicator on the HUD helpful so I don't get surprised when I let the clutch out. At spring mountain there is a corner that encourages a 4 to 2 shift before a turn entering a back straightaway.

Have fun.

You must be an automatic man.
Manual 1 st gear 45. 2 nd gear 65 and so on.
Is that how you run your C7, 3rd gear on the highway because you are only going 70 LOL......

Sure, 3rd @ 70 seems fine - heck the C7 will do over 150 in 5th. :)

Don't ask me how I know.
