I was wondering... 1st gear in the stingray doesn't reach 60 mph, 2nd goes way above 60. what would happen if we launch it hard from 2nd gear? will it get a better 0-60 time? I mean the car has more than enough torque to do so and save precious secs (millisecond) from shifting 1st to 2nd. any thoughts or knowledge about this anyone????

Shoulda got an automatic! Actually, that would probably not be a good idea as the result of losing the torque multiplication from first gear. If you try to leave the line in second gear, it won't launch as hard. The only time you might consider doing something like that would be if you were running real low gears in the rear and you couldn't hook it up with street tires.

No, starting in 2nd will be slower 0-60. That is because although you will save a shift, that will only save you a few tenths of a second. But starting in 2nd will mean you lose torque (pull) the entire time because, for a given MPH, you will be lower in RPMs if in 2nd versus 1st, and so that will put you at lower torque values.

So if you start in 2nd, you would lose a lot of time up until the other guy (who started in first) shifted, then you would gain very little back while he was shifting, but he would still beat you 0-60 quite handily.

Definitely slower starting in second. In first, although your acceleration is limited by traction, it pulls like a beast — and the auto-shift is lightening fast. My highly-calibrated digital butt dyno says that it pulls just as hard in second as first — and second pulls for a dang long time! That's why I don't think 0 to 60 times are a fair reflection of the Stingray's performance. I'd like to see performance cars compared by their 0 to 80 or even 0 to 100 (mph) times.

I'm more accustomed to the gearing and torque of Audis and Lamborghinis with the 5.2L V10 engine so the Stingray was a bit surprising. More of a shock at first. Honestly, I didn't like that much torque at such low RPMs.

Now, it just makes me grin. And not the normal kind of grin, either. I'm talking about a giant smile that frightens both single women and mothers alike... one of those goofy smiles that can get you thrown out of a zoo. That's the kind of smile I have when I get out of my Stingray.
