Thanks to all the good information on this forum, I wanted to share the good news that I got my order in and it's at 3000 now! Some timeline and other info for other folks below:

I'm in the Bay Area and was looking at local dealers, had a very bad experience with Courtesy in San Jose, and ended up putting my deposit at Boardwalk on 1/26. After reading this forum, and asking the dealer more intelligent questions (Boardwalk was up front), it looked like it wouldn't be until mid to late summer that I could get the vehicle. I decided that was too long for me to wait...so I went to MacMulkin.

Timeline:
Reached out to MacMulkin on 2/13
Sent them my deposit on 2/18 after a few days of questions. Price for a Z51 was MSRP minus $500 to cover the courtesy delivery fee. Was told it was probably impossible to get a carbon fiber dash (FAY) and dual roofs (C2Q) but everything else was possible, and I could get my order in within 1-3 weeks.
Reached status 1100 on 2/21, and they confirmed a courtesy delivery here locally ($400)

FAY went off constraint on 2/20. At this time C2Q was running 15%. I asked them to add it on if it would be possible but to not delay the order for that.

On 3/7 (2.5 weeks into the 1-3 week timeframe), they told me I would hit status 2000 on 3/11 and asked me to confirm my order. Both the FAY and C2Q were available!! With the price increase on 3/1, I was concerned about if I was price protected--but they have assured me that I am.

Surprisingly, on 3/13, I hit 3000!

Looking forward to having my car soon--hopefully before summer! Although here in CA, the weather is already summer weather :)

That is interesting! Can you confirm they changed your order to add FAY and/or C2Q AFTER the price increase, but your order was still price protected?

What I was told was that an order at 1100 before the price increase is price protected, unless you make a change to the order sometime after the price increase went into effect. I was told that any recent change to the order, regardless of how small, would cause the new price to be applied.

What have others heard? Does anyone know for sure yet?

Hacuzzi, Congrats on your order! I also dealt with MacMulkin Chevrolet, Tommy Thompson Jr. I had an outstanding experience dealing with them, and I would refer any member to MacMulkin to purchase their next Vette.

Hmm. I'm not sure. On the FAY and C2Q, I told them that I wanted it if it was possible around the time of my deposit, so that may have been before I actually hit 1100. But I did not see any GM workbench info until I hit 2000 on 3/7. That workbench information had what appeared to be the new price--it's hard to tell because they have 3 prices: MSRP, GMS, Supplier. The MSRP did look like the new number.

Between 3/7 and 3/13 I asked them if I could add the door sills. That was definitely the first time I had mentioned that, and there did not seem to be any issues. I have 3 separate emails for MacMulkin saying I'm price protected since then although I am still waiting for a final confirmation of price. I sent them my calculations and asked them to confirm and they've said that I am price protected without confirming the number yet--but I do expect a more detailed response soon and will let everybody know.

Rick--thanks! I agree with you on MacMulkin/Tommy. And thanks for serving!

That is awesome that you are getting what you wanted. What part of the Bay are you in? Which dealer are you using for delivery?

Okay, that sounds great! If you added the still plates after the price increase and were still price protected, then I need to tell this to my dealer who claims that any option change, regardless of how small, causes the new prices to get applied to the whole order.

Sill plates are LPO, meaning your dealer gets them separate from the car and installs them during PDI. That may be why there is no pricing change. Just a wild guess.

I was told that "floor mats" were enough of an order change to cause one to lose price protection.

I am not saying this is true; I am saying this is what my dealer told me. His exact example was "changing floor mats" is enough to void the price protection.

I would love to know what other dealers are saying!

Smokey, I'm in the South Bay.
I gave MacMulkin a list of a few dealers nearby, and they came back with Capitol Chevrolet in San Jose.

Sounds more like some shady dealers might be looking for an excuse to pad their bank accounts at the unknowing buyers expense. That's why forums like this one are so great, we can be enlightened, therefore empowered, buyers.

I think he is telling me exactly what his regional sales director (or whatever the title of that GM employee is) is telling him. I believe he is completely honest.

What I am hoping is that the regional sales director is incorrect, and that one can modify the order and still be price protected.

Unfortunately, when thinking logically, it makes sense to me that an order cannot be modified. If it could, then an order for someone could be changed to an order for someone else (that is, an order was placed for person A in January, they back out in April, person B walks in the dealership the same day, and a dealer could then modify the order of person A to meet the specs of person B, and magically person B just got the old price).

So I am thinking that what I was told is probably correct. I am just hoping it is not, because my order was for a M7, and now my wife has informed me that what I really want is an A6.

We do not definitely know the answer to this question, though clearly if one were to now add the Z-51 option, that price would now be $4,000 additional. GM routinely, other than the pricing issue, allows changes upon changes upon changes up to, but not including the 3,000 status level. Always have -- and there never has been a fee to make those changes.

Whether "changing even a single option code without automatically kicking in a GM price increase" is question # 1; question # 2 is whether dealerships would be on their own, adding in the price increase as a way to help themselves! When the car arrives, with is window sticker, that second answer will be definitively known.

Hi John,

You have close relationships with several dealers. Would you mind asking them about question #1? In particular, as far as they know, could someone change from the M7 to the A6 transmission, and still be price protected? If yes, exactly to what extent can changes be made? I know changing models (as you indicated above, like going base to Z51) would result in a price increase, but as long as that does not happen, just how many options (and which ones, if limited) can someone change and still be price protected?

If you could do this, I would be grateful. Also, I would imagine many people in this forum community may find this question relevant to them as well.

Thank you!

I just received confirmation that my C7 with Z51 was produced yesterday and they are scheduling for delivery to dealer. I placed a deposit for this car on October 1st, 2013 and have not changed anything in the order since.. MY order was qued for production on February 25th. Can anyone tell me conclusively if I will have to pay the price increase Chevy announced this month? Much appreciated.

Hey YellowMachine,

Congratulations on production! Sold orders (prior to 3/3) in the system should be price protected and therefore, will not be part of the increase. Hope this helps!

Hey guys,

I got confirmation that I am fully price protected, even after adding the Sill plates. I know it doesn't fully answer the open question but it at least confirms that some changes are possible.
As I mentioned earlier, I do not fully know if my FAY and C2Q options were added before or after 1100 status. At this point, with the final price protected confirmation, I'm not going to keep asking :) (what's the saying? Stop asking when the answer is already yes?)

BTW, 3300 now with a TPW of 4/7!
