Just finished reading a very informative and personal article on Harlan written by Mary Juechter in the latest issue of America's Sports Car (NCM publication) July/August 2014. I shot off an email to see if we can reproduce it here.:cool:

That is a great article, and really good idea. Does anyone know the one state Harlan has never been to (I am curious)? Article was written by journalist Mary Juechter (Tadge's wife).

Thanks Jeff!

I just dropped a note to Harlan and asked him. I'll let you know what I find out :cool:

Harlan just sent me a note and said the one state he could not drive to and had not driven a Corvette in was Hawaii. :cool:

I've been over there numerous times, but only to Oahu and Kauai. Never spotted a single Corvette anywhere. There's a ton of Mustang's from the rental car outfits but no Corvette's that I saw. Harlan should probably add that to his bucket list. :cool:

I'm over there frequently (usually the Big Island, but also Maui) and on my last trip I saw some C6s and a C3 but no C7s. I thought I remember one of our members being from Hawaii and having bought a C7.

There are plenty of Vettes in Hawaii. I was on a business trip to Oahu in June at a Mazda dealer that also owns a Chevrolet dealer and they were prepping a C7 for delivery. The GM said they were slow to arrive on the boat.

Annie and I are road trip fools, having also driven to every state but Hawaii (no bridge there yet), most Canadian provinces, and to Alaska in the dead of winter -- though the last trip was not in a Corvette.

I enjoyed doing that back when I was in college. I drove the same car to 49 states. Of course, I never took it with me to Hawai'i. It also went to most of the Canadian provinces, and it went to Mexico.

I got my first webpage on a server at the University of Kentucky back when I was a student there from 1993 to 1997. After moving to Ohio State for my Ph.D., I migrated it to one of the OSU servers. Although it is no longer posted online anywhere, it is in my backup archives and it was rather easy for me to find. Here is a relevant part of what it looked like back in 2002 or so (I am sure there are a lot of broken links):

<dl> Before I wrecked my 1992 <a href="http://www.buick.com/">Buick</a>
Skylark in 1999, I took it to 49 of the 50 states in the U.S. I did not take
it to Hawaii with me, because, of course, my car was not a boat. However, my
Buick and I went from Portland, Maine to Portland, Oregon; from Monroe,
Michigan to Monroe, Louisiana; from Savannah, Georgia to Seattle, Washington;
from the Skyway Highway in Chicago, Illinois to the Top of the World Highway
in Chicken, Alaska; from below sea level in a tunnel in Baltimore, Maryland,
to the <a href="http://www.munyon.net/mtevans/">highest</a> paved road in the
nation
on <a href="http://www.montrose.org/scenics/byways/evans/evans.htm">Mount
Evans, Colorado</a>; from the smallest county in the U.S., New York County,
New York (which has a size of 22 square miles), to the largest county in the
U.S., San Bernardino County, California (which has a size of 20,062 square
miles); from Mexico to north of the Artic Circle in Fort McPherson Northwest
Territories Canada; from Lake Okeechobee, Florida to the five Great Lakes;
from coast to coast and all in between. Wow, that was fun!</dl></ul>

Huh..... I never saw a single one. If I could have rented one while there on vacation I certainly would have... Some reason or another I must not have been in the right place at the right time. The coolest thing from any of the rental companies at the time was the Mustang Convertible, which is what I settled for last year. I was on Kauai though and that may have had something to do with it...

We go to Kauai often. No Vettes to rent there
