Most software updates, unless part of a recall, are done when (1) the customer brings the car in for service and (2) complains of a problem specifically part of a software update. Service centers don't automatically do every possible software update. In my case, I have never had to pay for a related software update on RedHot, a 2014.

 

Well, just bought my '14 and it's software levels are WAY out. I don't think it's EVER been to a dealer for service. It had 2950 miles on it when I picked it up a week or so ago. Looking like about a 1/2 g to bring all of the levels up to date.

 

They won’t update the software unless you are experiencing a specific issue

My mechanic will. I was just curious. I wonder why they won't unless you're having issues/problems... they obviously coded the updates for reason, one who hope they were good reasons.

 

Not sure if i need a update on my late made 2019. I know my nav does not show my hood or streets in my hood. I am on the gulf west of US19 in FL and it shows nothing west of US19.

 

I'm about 4 miles as the crow flies from the Gulf.

 

Two thoughts. Nav software isn't a dealer thing. You just buy an update and install it. (if you don't have NAV, it's moot)

There have been no real changes to anything that I know of, except for the MRC update in 2018? The OP has a 2014 so carplay /AA doesn't apply,

about 2 hrs south of you. I bought my 2014 in Largo (west of Tampa) at The Toy Store - super nice guys.

 

I used to fish down that way in the 70's and 80's on Lemon bay. Stump pass was good to fish back then.

Decided against the software updates (except for navi). Most, including GM dealer is of the opinion; "if something starts to have issues then do it"

The 2014s in particular, had Infotainment screen issues. There were at least 2 TSBs related to this. For some members, the software update(s) resolved the issue. For others, myself included, they ended up replacing the entire unit under warranty. Since that was done, May 2016, have had no further issues. Since your 2014 is out of its OEM warranty, and unless you have an extended warranty, the software update will be cheaper than the system replacement (the replacement requires the entire dash being taken apart).

If you have the 7 speed you’re gonna want the upgrade which brings the seat forward in order to reach the clutch at start up. If you have the automatic the only upgrade would be the Nav system you can purchase directly from GM.

Seriously? Is THAT why?!? I keep hitting the buttons to save the seat/mirror/etc settings so that it resets to the same place on startup and it never works.... THANKS

FWIW, I suggest you find the best dealer you can who will at least perform the TSB’s. You might have to compensate for their labor as your car is out of warranty but that should be all.

I have a 2014 Z51 with 6sp automatic with only 6200 miles. I started having intermittent problems with the center stack audio/HVAC controls not functioning even though infotainment screen was still working. A few trips to the dealer and they could not diagnose/resolve the issue. So I racked my brain and eventually replaced the battery and started to diligently put the car on the battery tender ever since. After a few drive cycles over a couple of months the problem disappeared (hope I don’t jinx myself with this post here). Bottom line, keep the electronics in your C7 charged or strange things may happen intermittently. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I've used Battery Tender Pluses for a LOT of years on everything from motorcycle, lawnmower, travel trailer and my Vettes. The C5's are notorious for column locking with low batteries. I use 'em religiously if not driving the Vettes for more than a few days.

I am praying that a software update will bring my infotainment screen back to life. CPO warranty expired 5/28/20 and screen went black 6/3. Like science!

 

Often when there is an issue so soon after the warranty expires, they will do a goodwill resolution. Try asking your dealer for same and if that fails, then try asking regional GM. Look in your Owners Manual for contacts.
