Hey Everyone,

Got my stingray about 14 days ago. It is a Z51 no magnetic in Laguna Blue VIN #4799. It is an amazing car overall, but I have been hearing this ticking noise since about 1,000 miles. My 2011 SS with the LS3 had a softer ticking noise, but this seems to be pretty loud. I have heard it is the fuel pump or the injectors. Either or, I am being told that it is normal. If it is normal, any way to dampen the sound? If it is not ,any ideas on what it is. It gets louder as I accelerate especially in gears 1-4.

Don't want to be a buzzkill, but the sound is annoying. Otherwise, I am having a blast.

Thanks,
Jason

Is it possible that the ticking noise was there all along and that you did notice/hear it until 1,000 miles? Reason I ask is that the 2014 motor has, first time for a Corvette, a direct injection motor, and they are notorius for a ticking sound.

However, the fact that you say it is so loud as to be annoying leads me to believe it might be more than that (no one else has mentioned an engine ticking sound that is loud and bothersome). Hopefully folks on this forum smarter on motors than me, have a good idea as to what is causing it.

Elegant,

Thanks. That is totally possible, but as you said, it is strange that nobody is mentioning the same issue. It is pretty noticeable. Thanks for the reply and I guess will see if some other folks chime in on the issue.

Have a good one,
Jason

Not a direct comparison but my '14 Silverado with the 5.3 direct injected V8 with AFM also has a very noticeable ticking sound, primarily at idle (since that's the only time I'm outside the truck to hear it). It reminds me of what an older motor sounds like with a bad lifter or a leak in the header. I'm told this is a byproduct of the direct injection and I have heard it on at least 2 other 2014's so I have to consider it normal.

I think it might be the high pressure direct fuel injection system that the car uses also, but to be sure let your service guy check it out. The noise you describe is typical of the noise that newer high pressure direct FI systems make.

It's likely the high pressure fuel pump/system for the DI. That pump is located under the upper intake manifold on the LT1, so the noise seems to be coming from the engine. Mine has a slight tick too.
A number of C7 owners have commented about this.
