Hello all forum members!

This is my first post. I just joined today. The information is mind blowing here. However, I didn't see anything about my following question:

I will be ready to purchase a new Stingray hopefully by October. I already started looking and took a test drive last Saturday in a black Z51 coup. The dealer said there are constraints and that I would have to purchase a car that is already on the lot or one they can get rather than order one new. Is that true? I would like to purchase the options that are important to me, but is that even possible now?

Also what should I look for in a dealership regarding purchasing this kind of car? Should I talk to someone who is knowledgeable about this car or just any salesman? Are there questions I should be armed with when I'm ready? I have never purchased a Corvette before. I'm thinking I would like the 3LT Z51. My preferred color was the Laguna Blue. But when I saw the black it was sweet. Is Laguna Blue a difficult color to get? Sorry for all the questions. Anything I can find out about how to go about this would be helpful. I notice that dealerships are charging about 3 to 6k over the MSRP. Is that common?

Thanks for any help.

Mark,

You can get MSRP from many dealers, especially on a coupe. If the dealer is telling you that an order can't be placed, he has a tight allocation or a desire to move his own inventory. Check out MacMulkin, Kerbeck or one of the other specialists out there. Ordering a car out of state and having it shipped to you is not nearly as daunting as you might think.

Other, more knowledgable, forum members are sure to provide more detailed help.

As my wife told me when I ordered my C6, "the only mistake you can make is to not get exactly what you want."

Congrats!

TucsonJim,

Thanks. Kerbeck is actually in my state. I live in NJ. I just checked their web site and they state that they have the largest inventory of C7 Stingrays than anywhere in the country. They also state they do not charge anything over MSRP. Thanks for the tip.

Whenever you are ready to place an order for the corvette that YOU want, it shouldn't take more than two months to have it built and delivered. High volume dealerships with more allocations get their cars sooner. Small dealers with hardly any allocations take forever. My dealer was a small dealer with 4 allocations for the 2014 model year. I ordered my vette in November 2013, and it is finally supposed to be built next week. I was number 4 on the allocation list.

Happy hunting. Don't worry, you can order whatever you want as long as you have a bit of patience.

They are the largest dealer in the country, but be aware they do have a healthy documentation fee.

MarkyMark, welcome aboard! Sent you a private message with thoughts additional to above posts. Especially want to second that you should get whatever options you want, and not those you do not. You can get your car exactly as you want it to be! Yes, there are some constraints, but here's a couple of threads that will help you learn the whole ordering to delivery process, and how you can get your exact dream.

Hey markymark,

I am glad to see many people chiming in to help you with good information. I will just add a few of my own direct answers below, and do so in bold.

Hello all forum members!

No, that is not true.

I would like to purchase the options that are important to me, but is that even possible now?

Yes, it is. The 2015 ordering guides will be released soon, and then you will know exactly what your options will be for your special order to arrive in October. But to get an October delivery, you will need to act several months in advance.

Also what should I look for in a dealership regarding purchasing this kind of car?

Look for honesty. In other words, don't go back to the guy who told you that you could not order your exact specifications, but rather wanted you to buy from his lot.

Should I talk to someone who is knowledgeable about this car or just any salesman?

Either will do as long as you are fully informed. If you don't want to spend the time learning all about the car and its ordering process on your own, then, in that case, you will need a knowledgeable salesman.

Are there questions I should be armed with when I'm ready?

Yes, but you will have to find out what is important to you. Each person has their own items which are really important to them, and only you will know for yourself.

I have never purchased a Corvette before. I'm thinking I would like the 3LT Z51. My preferred color was the Laguna Blue. But when I saw the black it was sweet. Is Laguna Blue a difficult color to get?

No, it is not difficult to get, but it does cost more than some of the other colors.

Sorry for all the questions. Anything I can find out about how to go about this would be helpful. I notice that dealerships are charging about 3 to 6k over the MSRP. Is that common?

Some dealerships try that, but stay away from those who do.

Thanks for any help.

"Rdslon01" is exactly on point on his comments, and again want to second one of them, that you should NOT be paying anything above list, nor do you need to, for any option, series of options, etc. This is true not only for 2014's on dealers lots, 2015's which you custom order (including the Z-51), nor should anyone be paying for list next year for a Z06!

Rodney,

You mentioned that the 2015 ordering guides will be coming out soon. Is there a projected date when they will be taking orders on the 2015 C7 Stingray? Also does anyone know if it's worth waiting for the 2015?

Off the top of my head, I don't know. I think elegant has posted it somewhere on here multiple times, however.

If you want an October delivery on a new StingRay built with the options of your choice, that will be a 2015.

My advice: find a dealer who won't add a huge mark up to the car (zero, or less would be preferable) and order the car EXACTLY how you want it, screw what everyone else thinks, after all, this will be your car, not theirs.

2015 ordering guides expected out within one week (though GM's always reserves the right to changes its schedules), but in any rate, very soon. Top dealers with allocation will be able to place orders as soon as the June 26th consensus. First 2015's will arrive at dealerships about September 10th.

That list of comments by Rodney is "spot on" 100%, I could not have done better on any of them and maybe a little worse. :)
