Hennessey C7 Corvette Stingray Shatters the Speed Limit While Surrounded by Police

Hennessey Performance has released a short clip on Instagram of their 1,000 horsepower 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray blasting down a Texas highway at speeds that are likely way more than double the posted speed limit – with hoards of Texas State Troopers gathered around to watch the super-tuned C7 in action.

Hennessey Performance Engineering has been building some of the fastest and most powerful cars in the world just a stone’s throw from Houston Texas since 1991 and after 22 years in business – the company has acquired an obvious measure of “pull” with the local community. In fact, Hennessey has enough local connections that Texas State Police were willing to temporarily shut down a stretch of Texas toll road SH-130 to see how fast Hennessey could get their new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray moving on a public road.

The irony of this whole situation is that if a “normal person” was caught driving a 2014 Corvette Stingray in a similar fashion to the Hennessey C7 shown – or even at a fraction of the speeds exhibited by the Hennessey Corvette – they would be quickly thrown in jail and the car would be impounded…provided that the local fuzz could catch them. However, since Hennessey obviously knows people who know people in the Texas law enforcement community, the well-known tuner shop was able to put this little stunt together for gearheads to enjoy. Is this a responsible use of taxpayer money with countless police officers and what appears to be pretty significant number of construction workers standing around watching the bright white C7 scream down the highway? No. Does that make this short clip any less awesome to watch? Also no. After all, if these cops and road workers weren’t standing around watching a 2014 Stingray travel at speeds that are likely well over 200 miles per hour they would likely just be standing around drinking coffee, smoking cigarettes and causing traffic problems so while the anti-performance car movement will gripe about this video being bad on a variety of levels – it is still an impressive piece of automotive action.

Unfortunately, Hennessey hasn’t stated yet just how fast their tuned and turbocharged 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray was traveling as it blasted down the Texas toll road, but after the Hennessey Cadillac CTS-V Coupe with the VR1200 twin turbo package topped 220 miles per hour; I would guess that the lighter and more aerodynamic Corvette achieved similar speeds – if not greater speeds. The details on the Corvette in action are also not specified just yet but considering that Hennessey was quick to promote their 1,000 horsepower package for the 2014 Stingray shortly after it was introduced, we would guess that this Corvette could have very similar power specs to those of the 1,226 horsepower Caddy that helped Texas State Troopers test their speed camera system last October.

After that incredible high speed run in the 1,200+ horsepower Cadillac CTS-V Coupe last October, Hennessey issued a nice, well produced video showing the 220 mile per hour run from the inside and out. Provided that the Hennessey Corvette Stingray hit the numbers that the company was expecting as it rocketed along SH-130, I would expect to see a similar video including better footage, more information on the car and – of course – a better idea of just how fast this wicked twin turbo C7 got going under the watchful eye of the Texas State Police.
