Here is a fascinating C-C brakes "how it's made" video. Thanks "Foxer55" for finding it. No wonder C-C brakes are so expensive.

Wow, what a time consuming process. You're right John, apparently worth every penny. Great video.

Fascinating video John, and thank you. I had no idea how the Carbon Ceramic discs were made. The process was certainly more involved than I was expecting. All I ever realized was the price tag difference between these and the conventional steel or iron and was never really able to justify the cost difference between the two seeing as how I never got into road racing. If I had, I'm sure I would have realized the difference, which brings me to the reason why anyone in our forum would want to order them as they come supplied on the new Z07 package. Unless you're going to primarily open track the car where brake fade under extreme use conditions becomes a problem, then there really isn't any practical need for them, other than to look cool... If anyone willing to go to the expense to look cool, then good for them. I just can't justify the expense personally. Not to mention the ride firmness from the rest of the package, but to each their own I guess.

Great video and thank you.

I remember back in 2008 when Porsche introduced the first CCB brakes available on a production car. They were an $8000 option and no one aside from them could even produce them. They partnered with Germany's SGL Carbon to develop the process and spent millions getting the formulation just right. Early adopters had some issues with pads, breakage and other issues but it didn't take long for them to get it sorted out.

And just saw Porsche is asking $12,000 just for C-C brakes. The Z07 package for $7,995 is a comparative great deal!

Admittedly, I'm nit-picking here, and this does basically nothing to alter the argument about the price/cost of CC brakes versus their usefulness on the street, but there is one additional difference....they throw much less dust than steel rotors & pads. I owned a 2010 ZR1 and the chrome wheels got much less dirty versus my previous (2008) Z06 on an equivalent drive. I like to show my car, so this was a decided advantage to me, but -again- not worth thousands of dollars more than the steel rotors....just a standard offering on the ZR1.
