HUD Is it a Must Have?

I have Head Up Display and always drive with it on. But with almost 50 years of driving I still find myself checking the console to check my speed. Old habits are hard to break. I've even fixed my settings to force me to use the HUD. So for me it is a nice to have but not a must have.

Some old habits die hard. I like HUDs, but I could easily live without them.

I had HUD in my '04 Corvette but never used it, so I don't miss it in my 1LT.

You can force settings to use HUD? Do tell? thats news to me....now I gotta pull up that darn manual.

Use the toggle on the dash buttons next to the steering column (one controls the height, one the brightness and one the displayed info). I really like the HUD and rely on it for most info while driving without looking to the dash. I also have it on my XTS, but the C7's is brighter and easier to read. However, the information choices are a bit better on the XTS than the C7.

I thought what he meant was he set the instruments in the DIC to not include a speedometer. Therefore, the only choice to find the speed is to look at the HUD.

Of course, I am only guessing here what he meant...

That's what I thought the OP was referring to....so we can turn off that speedo in the settings? Interesting.

I don't know. I haven't tried it. That is just what I took his post to mean.

Thanks Jeff.... I thought he meant I could turn off certain DIC features to force me to look at HUD. Like Gus, old habits have me looking down more than I'd like to.....but I love my HUD.

Since I have a 1LT I was looking forward to trying out the HUD when I attended the Spring Mtn. course. Surely it would show its worth while on the track. I hardly remember glancing at it during the whole course. I was too involved scanning the track ahead and setting up my next turn. When I did want to know how fast I was going I reflexly looked at the instrument display.

Yep old habits...under pressure = Gross motor skills.

"One never misses what one never possesses" -interview of person born with missing limb. Having a 1LT, I'd put its importance right up there with the power tilt steering wheel which, heaven forbid, I could never live without. It's not even an option; you're forced to have it. What genius thought that up?

For me a nice feature, but far from a necessity. But other aspects of the 2LT still make that package worth it, to me.

Really do like the HUD. Had it for the first time on my wife's 2011 Buick LaCrosse then again on my 2013 Camaro SS. I miss it on any car that doesn't have it now. I find myself really having a tough time checking the analog speedometer too. I'm too dependent on the digital one now.

Had HUD in my C6 and now in my C7 (much better, and more info, like rev limiter lights, rev match on/off and the "g" meter has a retained delay etc.). We also have it in the wife's SUV that I drive when we go anywhere together or when it's raining!

The other day had to drive to Charlotte for a two day meeting and did not want to park the Vette in a hotel parking garage overnight! $65 for two days is not worth being concerned about it's safety or banged up doors! :smile-new: That car did not have HUD and for the 200 mile trip felt naked! Kept on looking for it. My Garman GPS kept me abreast of the speed limit and red light cameras in Charlotte!

Would not buy a Car without it! For my planned GS will get a 2LT to get HUD, memory seats, lumbar support, bolster adjustment and Bose extra subwoofer. For my needs no need for a 3LT since they reduced the amount of leather on the Kalahari interior.

My C7 is my first and only car with a HUD. I find it is very useful when I am "really motoring" as I do not have to look down at the dash. If the car were a Malibu being driven as a Malibu is intended to be driven, I probably wouldn't care less.

I am looking for a CPO BMW SUV. A HUD is included in some of the upgrade packages, but its not going to be a deal breaker for me.

I'm so old school it's ridiculous. Just give me analog speedometer, tach, fuel, oil psi, water temp and voltage gauges and I'd be happy. :monkey:

We'll see HUDs and AR (augmented reality) systems more commonly used in future vehicles. You just can't stop technology from advancing.

For me, the HUD was the reason I got the 2LT package, although I've come to appreciate the other amenities of the 2LT package, notably the heated/cooled seats which work very well in my C7.

If people are distracted and not looking at the road, displaying red dots in the HUD area to indicate they are about to run off the road probably isn't going to help them or others...

For me, it was a must have. So glad I got it, use it ALL the time.

I think it's an outstanding option that serves my focused driving abilities, everything I need is in my line of sight. I would like to have HUD in every vehicle I own, it's not a deal breaker.

There were several posters above that wanted to know what I was talking about concerning 'I've even fixed my settings to force me to use the HUD" This is what I wanted to post. But had to wait until I was able to drive again (YEAH) before I could snag a picture. If you set the mode to Touring and go to phone, music ete... etc you eliminate to speed from showing up on the main dial. Granted, it is still on the left but I'm naturally draw to the HUD in this mode.

Sorry it took so long to respond.

I got the 2LT for the memory seats, and lumbar support, as I have back issues. I do use the HUD, but not all the time. I especially like it at night in Touring display with the dash lights off. Shows just the speed, and briefly your gear on shift change.
