C7 3LT Z51
Delivered: 4/28
Mileage: 817

I have had my car since April with no problems until now. Last Friday while driving my radio started switching channels every 1-2 seconds, AC would switch off Auto, airflow would switch from front vents to defrost, seats would switch from cooled to heated ( Also switching from low to medium to high ), AC would turn off, Bluetooth calls will sometimes last 10 seconds and sometimes hangup within a second. I called Chevrolet service and they first had me turn the car off and back on. That did not resolve the issue. They then walked me through resetting the Infotainment system but the issue persisted. Today I drove the car for the first time since Friday and all the problems are still there. Everything does occur at the same time. In other words when the radio station switches after a second or so that is when the AC settings also change. So the station changes and the various buttons on the AC will light up as it switches from one setting to another at the same time. Also the dial that normally displays the temperature setting for on the driver side now remains blank. Also starting today when I open the door it dings like you would expect if the lights were on but they are set to Auto and were not on when I checked.
I have reached out to the dealership but they are unaware of any issues similar to mine. They called Bowling Green but BG said they are also unaware of any similar issues. The best plan the dealership has is for me to bring it in and then apparently they are going to start exploratory surgery to find the issue.
Anyone familiar with any similar issues? No AC and heated seats are not too much fun in Texas during the summer.

Sincerely,
Charles

Probably a loose connection on the main harness that connects to the center stack. Reseating the connectors should clear the issue. Let the dealer have a look. The way the dash is built whatever they take apart should reseat fine and not cause any rattles down the road as none of the parts are stressed.

Just read this in Car and Driver. Probably not your issue but good to know about infotainment issues.

"but we’ve already had to visit the dealer for the central infotainment screen, which would occasionally flash wildly between menus and freeze up entirely. It turned out that carbon trim on the dash was in contact with the touch-screen: the dealer easily fixed the issue by shimming the trim away from the display. "

Charles, I'm sure the dealership can troubleshoot the problem. When I took my Vette to the dealership due to AC working when it felt like it. I asked the service manager who the certified C7 mech was, they have two. I talked with both mech's and they were good down to earth people, hell we spent more time talking about the C7 than they did finding the problem. They re-set some codes and I've never had a problem since. Hope all goes great for you.

I have been wondering when the carbon fibre issue might come up. The company I now work for we build a carbon fiber boat, we have to isolate everything from the carbon, radars, throttles, engines, windscreens, radios, antennas. Even with all that done at the end of the line we usualy find something that is no longer isolated and has to be redone.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and input. I am taking it over to the dealership tomorrow and hopefully it will be a quick/easy fix.
CPVette,

Sorry to hear about your multiple vehicle concerns. I realize how concerning that would be. Keep us posted on the results of your dealer visit. If necessary, I can contact their designated Customer Experience Manager if you have any additional questions. We'll look forward to your updates :).

So I dropped my car off at the dealership today ( They asked for me to wait till this week so they could setup the loaner car ). Before I dropped it off I had used my phone to record multiple clips of what was going on with the radio, AC settings, etc. I showed it to the service technicians/mechanics. None of them had seen anything like it. The first theory they had when I had described the problem before was that it was all related to the touch screen system (Infortainment system ) and might be a simple firmware update but they no longer think the issue lies there because it was also affecting the heated/cooled seat settings which is not on the touch screen as a setting. They are all still controlled by the same system of course but not a touch screen issue. So they are going to keep the car for a couple of days and see what they can find.

One thing that surprised me is that none of the people with whom I was interacting with said they were C7 certified. When I asked they just said that they all work on them. I would have felt better if they could have pointed to one person and said that was the main C7 tech and that person was certified. I thought any dealership selling the C7s would have a certified tech to work on them ( Like Rick had mentioned in his post where he spoke with a certified tech ).

Once I hear back as to what the issue is I will post it here in case it helps anyone else in the future.

I heard back from the dealership service department today. Apparently there are 4 cars who have experienced ( or currently are experiencing ) this same problem. It has to do with the Infotainment system's touch screen. Even though not all of the issues occurring are activated/deactivated by the touch screen ( Such as the heated/cooled seats - I am unaware of anywhere via the touch screen where this can be turned on/off ) it is all still controlled by the same central system. So they believe that by replacing the touch screen it will resolve all the issues including those not activated/deactivated by the touch screen. The dealership has ordered a replacement touch screen which they hope will be in late tomorrow.

I will update this thread as I hear further from the dealership, progress is made and/or if replacing the touch screen resolves the issues.

Sincerely,
Charles

Mine is in for the infotainer as well, but a different issue. I dropped it off yesterday at 9am, but I haven't heard a peep yet.

Charles,

Thanks for the update! It's great that the dealer has ordered parts and the diagnosis is proceeding smoothly. Feel free to keep us posted on the process if possible, and feel free to message me privately if additional assistance is needed.

Just an update. As of now the touch screen which the service department thought was being overnighted on 7/22 has still not shown up at the dealership. They are still holding out hope that it will get there this afternoon, 7/24.

The dealership finished replacing the touchscreen system and I picked it up on 7/29. So far it appears that replacing it did fix all of the problems I was having. It no longer changes radio stations every 1-2 seconds, switches AC on/off, switches from heated to cool seats, switches on defrost, Bluetooth phone calls drop, navigation system going nuts, etc. Hopefully this will help anyone else have a starting point if they run into the same issues.

I have a 2014 L3 Z51 Stingray that was having a jumping Infotainment screen. We never could get it to duplicate at the Chevrolet dealer. So, I took a 1 minute video of the screen jumping. This video was provided to the dealer who in-turn provided it to the GMC Technical Department. The GMC Tech was immediately able to ID the root cause, and shipped out a new radio unit including new screen and cable. The dealer installed the kit and since then for the last 5 days the screen has not even started to jump once. A note here is that it is very important to bring PROOF like a video off you camera or cell phone if the problem can not be duplicated at the dealer, and open an incident number with GMC Customer Support who will work with the dealer to make sure that your issue is resolved to your satisfaction.

This replacement radio assembly was not the same as the one that was originally installed at the factory into my Stingray. It had a different part/stock number. Unfortunately the dealer did not include part/stock number on my invoice.
