I noticed that K & N will soon offer an air filter for us at a price of around $100. Unfortunately, I was not able to find performance data to justify such a purchase. They did offer a video of a guy who said his car "felt" stronger after installation, but that was all. Have any of you run into information that might be helpful?

Dont bother.....unless you, like the cleanability of it and are going to run 300000 miles. You will never feel the difference. I have the airraid equiv, wasted money.

As with most accessories/aftermarket items you will undoubtedly get strong pros and cons as to its 'value' and effectiveness. One of the factors in considering a K&N is that it is an oiled filter system that can be cleaned and reoiled. However some users have found even after carefully following the directions, the oil from the filter ends up fouling air sensors in the engine creating code issues. More times than not your best best is the OEM or aftermarket throw away filter to ensure proper air filtration and volume of air flow to the engine for less cost than you invest in the K & N system unless you keep your car for many many miles.

It's not all about the performance...
You don't have to replace a K&N filter. It should last the lifetime of the vehicle.
So it saves money over time and the dirty filters don't get tossed in a land fill (if that's your thing).

However, there have been rumors regarding the 'filter-oil' coating the MAF electronics and potentially causing issues.
Don't know if they are true but, even though I used to use K&N's on all my vehicles in the past, I haven't installed one in either of my current vehicles.

Oil on the MAF is 90% sure with oiled filters...It's difficult to see because it's a very thin layer but if you unmount the MAF and gently wipe it's external body with alcool on a soft tissue you will see the oil on it, so the sensor itself will be contaminated too.
