Yesterday my bill for repairs included labor costs of $250 per hour. At the dealership.
What are you paying, at yours?

Labor costs are going to be regional. $250/hr doesn't surprise me, when you're paying for a specialized tech in a HCOL area.

Generic automotive (and motorcycle) repair at my local indy shop (in a MCOL area) is $125-$175/hr, depending on the brand they're working on. At that rate, I try to do everything myself. The logic is that I can break a lot of stuff, buy lots of tools, and more than break even - assuming I have the time to take on the project.

Without going into the whole economics of repair shops and dealership. Everyone is having a VERY hard time hiring technicians. It is not uncommon for high end engine, drivetrain and electronic techs to be paid well into the six figure range. It is the best way to the dealer to recoup the cost of training.
