Folks,
Does anyone know if there is launch control with the auto trans? If so how do I use it? Will be through my 500 mile break in period later today and its time to open this bad boy up?
Thanks in advance!

Owner's Manual section 9-45.

"Launch Control (Track Mode Only)

A Launch Control feature is available, within Competitive Driving Mode (except Z51 with Magnetic Selective Ride Control) or Performance Traction Management (Z51 with Magnetic Selective Ride Control), on all vehicles to allow the driver to achieve high levels of vehicle acceleration in a straight line.

Automatic Transmissions

The brake pedal must be firmly pressed to the floor, equivalent to a panic brake event.

The accelerator pedal is rapidly applied to wide open throttle. (If the vehicle rolls due to wide open throttle, release the throttle, press the brake pedal more firmly, and re-apply the accelerator to wide open throttle.)

The Launch Control feature will initially limit engine speed as the driver rapidly applies the accelerator pedal to wide open throttle. Allow the engine rpm to stabilize.

A smooth, quick release of the brake pedal, while maintaining the fully pressed accelerator pedal, will manage wheel slip."

So this is the part I don't understand. I have Z51 with Magnetic Ride. Does this mean this is NOT available to me?

I've read through the launch control and the only thing I can come up with is that with the Z-51 you don't need to be in the competitive driving mode for that system to work. I got to tell you though that I really am not sure about that. Looking at what is written in the "how to" below, using WOT and not knowing for sure what will happen can't be a good thing. Maybe someone will help us here. HELP!

Manual Transmissions
. The clutch is pressed and the
vehicle is in 1 (First) gear.
. The accelerator pedal is rapidly
applied to wide open throttle.

I have a z51 with an automatic I selected track mode then race pressed down hard on the brake floored it as manual says left it in automatic did not paddle shift rpm came up then settled around 1000rpm released break and u get it all no wheel spin It shifted out of every gear at 6500 as it should and I let off at 155 and it was still pulling but in race mode as it gained speed u will want 2 hands on the wheel cabin sound was awesome . I have not tried this in any other mode YET. The steering feels better in track sport2 than race .

StingRay Forums support vigorous driving of our Corvettes on tracks, and it is assumed the above video was of driving on a non-public road.

I agree and the information and feedback not very good. I admit I have been reluctant to try this with my manual until I'm sure it works as described

I do not know the total number of forum users here but I am guessing that the members with an auto , z51 and mrc have not tried launch control otherwise they would post their procedure right? Owners manual instructions are confusing to me and as I see it is confusing to others. Maybe someone who attended the Ron Fellows driving class in Nevada can chime in one day? If not I will after I do my class, you know why, because I want to help those who are confused by the owners manual.

It's really not that confusing. Launch control is available on all cars with all transmissions and options. The only difference, as noted by the manual, is cars equipped with Magnetic Ride Select have Performance Traction Management instead of Competitive Mode in the track settings. That's the only reason the manual says "except Z51 with Magnetic Ride Select" when referencing Competitive Mode.

I've written technical manuals in a past life and this section is exceedingly poorly written. Page 9-41 sums it up much better.

Launch Control

Available only in Track mode for maximum “off–the–line” acceleration when in Competitive or PTM modes.

Thanks Mark, unfortunately you don't have a car yet to tell me this is exactly how it works, how many members do we have in this forum? Looks like nobody has tried this feature yet otherwise they would post their steps 1 to 5 done.....

No, I don't and when I do it will be a manual anyway. The manual is pretty clear, put it in Track mode, select a performance traction mode, hold the brake, floor the throttle, lift off the brake and hold on. If, when you press the accelerator the car tries to move and seems to strain then it's not engaged so let off the throttle.

Do you believe, for some reason, that a car with Magnetic Ride doesn't have launch control?

Hey, I understand not wanting to experiment with your own car, I'm not afflicted with that problem, I'll try anything once ;)

I do get the procedure on the manual, it is a lot clearer in the manual and there are plenty of youtube demonstrations but none for auto that are clear, I must be the only member with an automatic

I will just ask the instructor at the Ron Fellows track when I go before next march, I will then share my results for newbies with auto trans

I'll be getting my Vette next week. I'm sure it won't be long before I try the launch control because I'll have over 2300 miles on her by the time I get home so she should be broke in. I will have auto Z51. Just the idea of putting on the brakes and bringing that beast up to full throttle is Gnarly. :D
