Hey Everyone,
Have 600 miles on my z51 and have some thoughts on my shifting experience. It seems as though when "not in the most perfect" rpm range, going from 1st to 2nd gear is a little rough. I wouldn't call it a crunch, but it is definitely a much firmer push/slight blockage when going through this shift, and this IS NOT the 1 to 2 block the system turns on making you go to 4th, but could have something to do with this technology being on the car.

Other times shifting is smooth when revving this baby up during full throttle or shifting within different RPM ranges.

What's everyone's experience? Is this normal to feel different type of shifts depending on when in the rpm or throttle range you are shifting? Thanks in advance!

I really think it might have to do with the 1-4 shift they impose when driving slow in first...even though the issue I described isn't when im going slow in first. The technology in general though might make this stiffer/rougher shift into 2nd happen in certain rpm ranges or throttle inputs.

Only way to know if this is normal is for other owners to chime in.

I had the same experience when my car was newer. I have about 2800 miles on it now and the shifting did improve. However, occasionally, I have to ensure that the gear shift is properly engaged in first gear before I accelerate or the shifter will "pop" out of gear. I have experienced this problem less often as I put more miles on it.

I have about 1100 miles on mine and have not had anything rough, as far as shifting goes. Seems smooth in all gears. I did get a CAGS eliminator installed a few weeks ago, but even before that it was smooth.

Good point, missed that in the original post. No Z51 on mine, so irrelevant. That's what I get for reading too many posts.

I have a nonZ51 and the shifting is rough. I now have a little over 2300 miles on it and there is not been much improvement. It catches between 1st and 2nd. I am going to take it in and have it checked.

Here is what I found regarding the way "my" car shifts. It doesn't like if you hold an rpm, and then shift. It likes accelerating and shift, or decelerating, and shift. If you roll out in first, and keep it steady at 2500 or 3 grand, or higher, for a few seconds bc some idiot is in front of you not accelerating and you don't want to upshift yet in case they slow down, and then you try and shift into 2nd.......it doesn't like it and you get what has been described in above posts. Same for 2nd to 3rd, but not something that happens as much from an opportunity perspective.

Other than that, smooth and definitive shifts if at an rpm and downshifting, or accelerating then upshifting

Interesting.. I'll test this out on my way home.

Z51 no issues. It does get smoother to operate once things warm up a bit. Of course, not driving it hard when it's still cold any how.

Dasyatis,
Can you try what I described a couple posts up and tell us if the shift feels different when shifting that way? Thx
The simple answer is that it doesn't care. 1/4 mile full throttle runs first to second no issue. In traffic, drive with the throttle, little to no brake, can hold steady speed, clutch in, grab second, no problem.

Weird. I'm sure this guy is going to find no issues when I go to dealer tomorrow and tell me it's normal. That said, most folks on here with z51 have described the experience from first to 2nd as not being ideal. Some complain of stiffer shifting when cold, it once it's warmed up its fine, but I have no issue when it is still cold.

My guess is when it is cold we are taking it easy on the car throttle wise which leads to this issue. But that is just an assumption. Would need to drive someone else's vette to really know what other z51's are like.

Keep you all posted on what the corvette tech responds with
