Mary Barra Named GM CEO, Automaker's First Female Chief

General Motors GM has named its first female CEO, the company announced Tuesday morning. Mary Barra, the company’s executive vice president of global product development, purchasing and supply chain, will take over for current CEO Dan Akerson on January 15, 2014.

GM has the lowest profit margin of any of the big car companies because they have had a history they spend money needlessly, such as repetitively buying parts in small batches, etc. Mary Barra has been implementing new purchasing procedures, for example recently buying the base four cylinder motor in a single 2,000,000 unit contract -- reducing per unit costs. Not worried.

So many prophetic comments, so many interesting ones. The interviewer was Squawk Box's Co-anchor Becky Quick Gminsidenews.com's News Contributor Perian summarizes three different comments she makes during the interview, an interview done months before she knew she would become GM's CEO:

"GM's dress code policy was like 10 pages long...that needed to change". [She changed it to two pages.]

"No more excuses: No more crappy cars."

"I like cars that go fast."

And Perian's summarizing comment: "I think Ms. Barra will rock GM's corporate culture and the product line."

Here's the interview:
