So in 2000 I sold my 1995 vette because I got stationed in Alaska. In 2008 I sold my 2006 because I got stationed in Alaska. I just bought my 2014 in Nov and got the call that...you got it, I'm going back to Alaska!!! I guess the sure way to get stationed in Alaska is to buy a Corvette! This time I am determined to keep #415! Suggestions...

If you can find heated storage use the military's moving plan and have the car shipped. There should be at least a couple months of the year where you could enjoy it. I would, however swap out the tires with some good all season's that can withstand the cold.

WOW...3 assignments to Alaska? I just retired after 23 years active duty Army. Yes, I spent 13 of them at Ft. Bragg, but that was because I was airborne. I can't imagine your branch manager having any logic behind that record. Sorry...but apparently, you must LOVE Alaska! ;-) Thank you for your service!

I am in the AF I hope I don't get sent to Alaska but if I were to get sent I would keep my vette and get a really cheap old pick up or SUV.

Yikes. I think you need to buy a lottery ticket with that track record.

Keep us posted on what you come up with. Maybe a trusted friend with space for it? I may find myself in a similar situation in about 5 years and would also like to see some creative ideas.

Oh man, heartbreak): my dad is in the AF (retiring colonel this year!) and finally pulled the trigger on a challenger, and 3 months later got stationed in Kuwait. Luckily it was only a 6 month tour so his wife and kids held on to it here in the states until he got back. Any chance you could influence the length of your stay this time around?

Thank you for your service! That's so difficult. If you're making payments, sad to say it would be better off to sell it and take the hit now and pocket the money to buy one when you return. That's a tough one...

I can definitely relate. Any chance of requesting a different assignment. I spent 30 years in the Army, of which 22 of them were in Germany and 19 of them was consecutively. Seems like every time I bought a new car, I got deployed; 1st Gulf War, 2nd Gulf War, Bosnia, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Bought a new car in 2011 and guess what.....I retired :)

Thanks for the comments! Actually my hubby is from Alaska, active duty as well, so we do love it there I just wasn't expecting it right now...as Lipstic said..."what happened to Virginia" I was suppose to be going there but they changed my assignment this week! If it weren't a premiere edition I would maybe sell it, but I'm gonna hang on to it...just not sure where yet.

Ha! I live in Alaska, am in process of getting a new C7, and I will NOT be bringing it up here, (our roads suck!) but rather renting storage for it down in the states somewhere, until we decide where we are going to buy a house. We retire in 2 years, and I want to move to a place where there are 4 seasons. Been here for 25 years, want to do something different.
