I ordered the dual roof package, and as many of you know, it's currently under constraint. You can get either one or the other - but not both. I was wanting the transparent roof more than the CF body color roof but my salesman suggested I go with the CF body color since they're more expensive than the glass and I'll get it with the regular price of the car. I will then order the glass roof which will cost me less than ordering the CF one later. For what it's worth....;)

Is this the same dealer that claims to have allocation, and you trust ANYTHING he says?

Body colored CF roof more expensive than the glass? Then why is the glass roof a $995 UP CHARGE when ordered from the factory REPLACING the body colored roof?

I think the "salesman" is mistaking the exposed CF roof price for the body colored roof. Unless he's gone back to the parts department and priced out a replacement STOCK roof he's looking at an accessory catalog which will not show the stock roof, only the exposed CF and glass roofs.

You may have a very good point. I'll double-check with them and delete this post if I'm (they're) wrong. Thanks for pointing it out. BTW, he mentioned that the body color roof was just the CF roof with paint on it. I'll get back to ya.

While the body colored roof that is standard with the C7 is carbon fiber, it is not of the quality in terms of how nicely the carbon fibers are alined in the visible carbon fiber panel. Hence the cost difference between the standard painted carbon fiber roof and the transparent carbon fiber roof. Finally, one additional option is that I know some individuals with the dual roofs are seriously considering selling one of their roof panels already just as some individuals have put their OEM wheels up for sale when they replaced them with aftermarket.

Thanks for clearing that up, jsvette. SO what would you do? Personally, if the roof is painted, I couldn't care less how well the fibers align as long as it's structurally sound. I'd prefer the glass roof but would really like both. BTW, I didn't know the CF roof (non-body colored) was transparent. I'd hate to order the C7 with the body colored CF roof if 1) it's cheaper to order post-delivery than ordering the glass roof post-delivery, and 2) no one wanted to let go of their glass roof. Do I make any sense? LOL

Ok, first there is no structural concerns it is strictly a visual difference between the body colored and visible carbon fiber panel. Secondly, the visible carbon fiber panel is not transparent and of course neither is the body colored carbon fiber panel. The only panel that you can see through is the 'glass' panel. In fact it looks from a distance of say 10 feet, almost black just like the visible carbon fiber panel. It has a heavy blueish tint when you look out from the interior, but a great view! The confusion is easy to understand with the term visible carbon fiber, but that only refers to the fact that they take the required steps to ensure the carbon fiber you get to see looks orderly and not like someone put a stain on fiberglass.

OK Mark, I spoke with Rick "Corvette" Conti, a salesman whose reputation proceeeds himself around this forum and with whom I've decided to order my C7 (thanks again, Rick). He is also of the opinion that I should get the body color CF roof first instead of the glass roof. He rattled off many reasons why (I forget most of them because I've pulled an all-nighter re-engaging myself with the ordering process) but I remember him saying that getting the body color would ensure that the color matched perfectly (CF tends to "paint" differently), and the glass roofs would only be around $1200 which, when coupled with the BC CF roof, would still be cheaper (approx. $1200) than the dual roof package at $2K. Makes sense to me. I would still prefer the glass top and will ultimately get it when they become available. For now, I'm just happier than a pig in sh#t with confidence that my C7 will be waiting for me when I return stateside in early March. ;-)
