Currently my red mist 3LZ Z06 is in Weatherford Texas on it's way here to SoCal. Trading in my 2022 Z51 C8 for it. May arrive Wednesday-Saturday, depends on how many deliveries are on the way here.

Very excited for VIN 1G1YF2D39R5601594 to arrive!

I don't know if anyone uses this forum, but I will post photos of my Z06 as soon as it arrives.

The car is on the Jack Cooper transporter and is currently on I-10 in Las Cruces, NM which is about 11 hours away. ETA is 1am Thursday. Dealer said he will shoot some photos of it arriving and unloading if we aren't there.

My Z06 is RON at the Comfort Inn and Suites on Wabash Ave in Lordsburg, NM. This is apparently a normal Jack Cooper RON location as evidenced by this Google Earth screen grab showing a tractor trailer with 10 C8s in the big parking area.

Here's a screen grab from the tracking software:

I think the driver reached the allowable hours behind the wheel and had to get sleep. This will push back the ETA by about 8 hours.

Car is about to enter CA at Blyth. ETA 3:15 PM. Papers signed. After PDI I'm outta there with the Beast.

The exhaust sound is awesome!

Less than 24 hours after taking delivery and with 21 miles on the clock, the car throws a CEL with DTC PO0EFF which appears nowhere I can find. The engine also makes an irregular ticking sound and idles rough. Engine builder's name is Stephan Clark. The MyChevy app doesn't want to schedule a service appointment because the dealer's software is not running.

This is Connell Chevrolet in Costa Mesa, CA.

#13 ·
Do you have any idea what the DTC relates to? Supposedly it's the emission system but I don't know.
Ray

#14 ·
I believe it relates to the power train, but I am not certain since I can't find that specific code.

Thanks, I'll continue to research it.

1st impressions:

It's loud.
It's stiffer than my Z51 but tolerable.
In drive, in track mode, the shifting is incredibly aggressive remaining in 3rd gear far longer than my Z51. In tour mode it behaves more like the LT2.
The new displays are not as friendly as the 2022 car.
Frunk is harder to close than the 2022. It does not function like the engine lid. You really have to push it down hard to latch it.
It is quick even when observing the 500 mile break-in rules.
Took it to Doughnut Derelicts (a Cars and Coffee for car guys) in Huntington Beach and had to listen to every Z06-expert–sans–Z06 tell me all about the car and how they're not paying an ADM.
Driveability with the LT6 is excellent considering in years gone by getting this much power produced a bucking and snorting beast. However, if you're not looking for bragging rights (I was) the Z51 Stingray or an E-Ray will give you more low end torque.

I neglected to tell them not to wash it and they scratched the hell out of it so I will have a paint correction done prior to the Xpel PPF and Clearplex windshield protector install on Thursday along with a ceramic coating. Total for that is $5,400. Plus replacing the strut tower covers front and rear and the water diverter and I indulged in the brushed aluminum engine builder plate ($124.99). Build sheets are not yet available from NCM for 2024 vehicles.

In my opinion, the Red Mist Metallic Tint coat is drop-dead gorgeous and I'm so glad i got it. Photos don't do it justice.

I opted to replace the plastic engine builder plaque with a brushed aluminum 6061 billet aftermarket plate with anodized screws. It turns out the actual name plate is taped on and the seller provides replacement tape. Somewhat cheesy for a super car, which it is.

This is how my engine bay looks currently.

As of today (12/5/23) no extended rock guards exist for the Z06. As a consequence I am having Xpel PPF installed behind the wheel wells.

However, the existing C8 front and rear strut tower covers for mag ride fit perfectly as does the water diverter for the front compartment. However if you purchase the Carbon Fiber rear strut covers that include black plastic nuts to cover the exposed bolt ends be aware that the nuts are nut long enough to seat properly over the bolts and will crack if tightened to do so. This allows water to enter defeating the purpose of the covers. Caveat emptor!

Installing the RGS or Scrape Armor front grill guards requires removing the front bumper cover and a staggering number of screws and bolts. I am loath to allow a dealer to do this since they are flat-rate mechanics for whom due diligence is not a priority. Also, the manufacturers have adopted the "Z06 tax" with their pricing, figuring if you can afford a Z06 you can afford their inflated MSRP. This is piling-on. The Scrape Armor you buy on the car when you build it is an LPO (not an RPO), meaning it is dealer installed and not mounted at Bowling Green.

The side intake screens are available but all require a Rube Goldberg-style install involving double-sided tape. There are Chinese versions which I used on my Z51 which rely on an interference fit and I may go with them since they worked perfectly. They are big enough to fill the wider Z06 intake.

After moderate driving I noticed the side fans stay on for up to five minutes after engine shutdown to prevent heat sink. That's comforting. However, this means you should keep the car on a trickle charger. The one that comes from Chevy is a rebranded CTEK base unit. I use the CTEK MUS 4.5 Test & Charge on all my vehicles. They work perfectly. If you want to install an Anti-Gravity Li-Ion battery (which saves 36 pounds over lead-acid but costs $900), they make a charger for that too and it is sold by Anti-Gravity. I used one in my Ferrari F430 and it was powerful and had an emergency cranking capability that would not let the battery run down.

If you are taking delivery of a new C8, tell your salesman to not have them wash it. The paint is perfect when it comes off the trailer (I saw it) but when they wash it, they scratch it criminally. This means you are forced to have an invasive paint correction.

Fit and finish on my car is superb. All panels are closely aligned and everything works as advertised. Th pedestrian warning surprised me at Cars & Coffee since people just wander in front of moving vehicles. It will take some time to acclimate to the changes added sine my 2022 Z51. Things are deceptively similar, yet some are wildly different in operation and configuration. And I haven't even gotten around to My Mode and Z Mode.

I will post further impressions and feedback if anyone besides the moderator is interested.

Nice additional information Ray. FWITW the latest CTEK LiIon batteries based on what they told me at SEMA. I'll verify at CES.

What about CTEK? Are they selling Li-Ion batteries? I think your post got mangled and is missing words.

I really liked the Anti-Gravity Li-Ion battery. They come in a range of cranking power. The larger your engine and the colder your climate the more cranking power you need. The Z06 has a staggering (for 2024) compression ratio of 12.5:1. I haven't seen that since the Sixties. The higher the cranking power the heavier the battery and the less the weight saving.

With respect to some rear strut covers that include black plastic nuts and washer to cover the exposed bolts on the tower, here's to what I refer:

There is nut enough exposed threads for the nut to fit, especially with the rubber washers in place which are required for the setup to be water proof.

It pays to read Amazon customer reviews.

Fun fact: The LT6 is 5.5L or 335.7 cu inches. The much loved 327 cu inch engine was 5.4L.

Ray, thanks for catching the missing words in my post (since corrected). No, CTEK is not also producing/selling batteries. I only mentioned that they now have units to work with Li-Ion batteries because you indicated you liked the CTEK you have, but if you went with an Anti-Gravity Li-Ion battery they also sell a charger for it.

Yes, I bought the CTEK Li-Ion charger from Anti-Gravity. They sell it at a discount to preempt people from ruining their batteries with a standard charger. When it's time for a battery for the Z06 I'll get another Anti-Gravity. I still have the brand new lead-acid battery from the Ferrari which I will give to anyone in Orange County that needs one. It's taking up space and a CTEK charger.

I dropped the Z06 off for paint correction, Xpel PPF, and the Clearplex windshield coating. I also opted for PPF for the display screen. It prevents fingerprints somehow.

That was a typo. All my CTEK chargers are the 4.3 TEST & CHARGE. The unit can not over charge a battery so it can be left connected indefinitely. I learned about them from Jay Leno's garage. Every one of his cars has one attached.

As mentioned earlier, I have used CTEKs on all my cars for years, without any issues ever and extending the life of my car's batteries here in the desert heat. One of my CTEK reviews You’ll get a charge out of this.

Thank you. I am thrilled. I haven't driven it much because I wanted to get the PPF on it. But when I get it back, look out. The break-in is 1,500 miles for track use and despite having no intention to track it, I'm going to adhere to the more stringent break-in protocol.

Just got my car back from the paint correction and PPF application. It sparkles!

For those who think the rear trunk gets hot, the frunk gets almost as hot thanks to the radiators that surround it.

The display is totally different from the 2022 display. Perhaps because I'm so accustomed to the 2022 display this is somewhat disconcerting. But I'm sure I will acclimate.

The frunk lid is only difficult to latch if it has been open for more that 10 minutes. It will still latch, but only with additional pressure. To avoid this press the external frunk button once. At that point the frunk will electrically latch normally as does the engine lid. I leave it open to attach my CTEK trickle charger so this discovery was welcomed.

Several of the defaults that existed with the 2022 must now be explicitly selected. e.g., the folding mirrors. My 2022 would fold the mirrors automatically when the lock button on the key fob was pressed once. It now takes a double-tap to fold the mirrors. Unless you configure it otherwise through the display screen. Unfortunately, the engine must be running to make most configuration changes.

This is SoCal so there are a lot of Corvettes, even C8s. My 2022 drew zero attention. The Z06 is somewhat different, but I think that's due to the sound. My Ferrari drew so much attention it was embarrassing after a while. Even the Z06 guarantees some anonymity.

The Wave is apparently dead. I wave, to every Corvette generation, but few wave back.

Has anyone gotten the "trusted device" to work with the MyChevrolet app on a 2024?
