Today, at 9:00 AM EST, NAIAS opened to the public. Similar to the C6 Z06 reveal, GM's Corvette team made special arraignments to bring in Corvette lovers before the show opened. Harlan Charles and Kirk Binnion were present, made a presentation and answered questions. Here's today Z06 news from NAIAS:

Z06 was designed as if there no ZR1.

Things point in the direction that his will be the highest top speed Corvette ever (206 MPH+); lots of development work, including handling, calibration, etc., still to be done this year before Z06's go on sale.

Tiger Shark Gray not at Barrett Jackson; shipped to next week's Daytona International Raceway "24 Hours Rolex" in which the C7.R's are racing.

Weight will be a little bit more than the Stingray.

The larger rear inlets and wider rear provide 50% more downforce than StingRay.

AFM for manual trans only in Eco mode; first car to be supercharged, yet have cylinder deactivation; AFM on the 8 speed will not kick in if in paddle shift mode, but will in under parameters.

Carbon-ceramic brakes only with Z07 package.

Z07 cars get two sets front splitter corner winglets, one for daily driving, the largest set (shown on the VY NAIAS car) for track use.

Took an informal poll on who wants "orange" back as a color, and very few hands were raised.

Customers will get cars late December early January.

Per Harlan Charles: "If you can afford the previous Z06 you can afford this one and will be pleased with pricing."

[Thanks BeaZt for being there and providing info.]

For those interested in seeing what the "smaller" front corner vertical winglet looks like -- the one that comes on the "Z06 with the aero package," and as per above, also on the Z07, here it is:
