Hello. I just purchased a 19 Corvette Z51,LT2, Long Beach Blue. My questions is as follows. One sales guy said first oil change 5000 +/- 1-2k miles depending on how hard driven. A second sales guy recommended first oil change at 500 miles regardless of what service manual recommends. I will be a weekend driver only, purchased car just to cruise. I don’t buy the 500 mile first oil change. Any thoughts.

500 mile is correct, and covered by GM. So don’t skip it.

Yes 500 miles absolutely. And it is on GM so why would you skip it. IMO oil changes are the cheapest form of insurance for a long life motor..
And not that you asked but most ( not all ) sales people know very little about the product they are selling beyond getting your name on a sales contract. Your Corvette will tell you when it it is due for following oil changes after the first one . If you weren't told that when your new vehicle was delivered it proves my point. Once the "finance" guy has your name signed on the contract the sales love fest is over and they are on to the next one.
Welcome and enjoy that sweet ride.

Welcome to our forum jon5014ren and congrats on your Z51. Do take advantage of the covered (free) 500 mile oil change. It will check and ensure that your car has the proper level of oil at this point. Also, recommend you read your manual on how to check the oil level since it is a bit different from other cars (including non-Z51s).

If you don't and you have an engine problem I suspect GM will give you a hard time. See the service schedule. On the 2016 it is page 302 which says:

"Dry Sump Engines Only (Z51 and Z06) - Required: Initial break-in oil change. Change engine oil and filter after the first 800km/500mi. Follow the engine oil life system for every oil change thereafter."

FYI, if you are not already aware you should probably familiarize yourself with the procedure for checking the level which us a much talked about topic on this forum.

For what it is worth, I bought mine as a demo and first oil was not changed till 1,500 miles when I bought it. When it was done, the dealer over filled it.

And after the first change at 500 miles, just follow the Oil Life Monitor. It will tell you when you need to change the oil.

I came across this conversation thread last night at 1am, had a holly #$&@ moment. I have 1,300 miles on my GS and I had no clue that this 500 mile oil change was recommended/needed. Confirmed that the oil change is indicated in the owners manual for my GS. Thank you all for the heads up. I’m at the dealer right now getting my free oil change (y)

You would think that the so called “corvette sales specialist” at the dealer would mention this once you sign on the dotted line.
