Yup, that may just test the old saying that there is no such thing as bad publicity.

This happened on one of our annual ZR-1 caravans to Bowling Green (we used to get 10-20 C4 ZR-1s from the Midwest and go down in a caravan--probably the last large group was about 2005). In about 2003 I was leading a group of about 15 ZR-1s and one Ferrari Enzo (owned by a friend who had bought it used for a "bargain" $750,000). When in Kentucky about 50 miles from BG, The Enzo owner and one guy in a red ZR-1 decided to fly ahead for a high speed run and were doing at least 130 when a cop on the other side caught them on radar. Actually, the Leading Enzo saw him before he could shoot and slammed on his brakes so missed a citation, but the red ZR-1 wasn't so lucky. When the rest of the caravan came by about 20 minutes later (they really had been flying), there was the Enzo and the ZR-1 by the side of the road with about four Trooper cars. I saw the ZR-1 driver in handcuffs being put in the back of the cop car. The Enzo owner was kind enough to stay with the guy and bail him out so the weekend worked out fine in the end with some extra exciting stories to tell. But you would think that Corvette drivers going to BG would have long ago figured out that the State Troopers love Corvettes going to BG and are particularly vigilant. --Bob
