I'm picking up my new C7 in Columbus in 1 week and then driving back to the Bay Area. The car is at the dealer now. Should I ask the dealer to arrange a detail with Opti Coat this week while I am waiting to get to Columbus? From what I understand there aren't too many dealers in the Bay Area. Does anyone know of a reputable service provider in Columbus, I'll check with the dealer as well. Thanks!

wait until you get home....opti coat won't protect against rocks and things - it will just protect against marring and swirls.....it is not a protective film...better to find an XPEL dealer in columbus...I found one thru XPEL in Columbus when I picked up at coughlin in October - decided not to do it for other reasons.......

I have been putting off the decision between Opti-coat (or Cquartz) and a film. I have Opti-coat on a Lexus and bug splatter from driving through the central valley down I5 between San Francisco and LA easily wipes off. However, as Glen mentions above, there is absolutely no protection from small rocks launched in your direction from the car or truck in front of you. I have noticeable chips. The car paint has to be perfectly detailed before application of Opti-coat. Otherwise, you will have placed a permanent coating over the existing scratches and swirls. So, I guess my suggestion is to go with a film for that 2000 mile drive back to the bay area. If you decide on Opti-coat, the car can be detailed after the drive and Opti-coat applied.

If you do decide to wait, another option would be a temporary solution like painter's tape for the drive home...

No reason to choose one or the other; you can always have the coating applied on top of the film, or at least the areas of the car that the film isn't covering. In fact that would be advisable to give you the best possible protection from the conditions you might encounter.

Didn't you purchase a fabric bra for your drive back from picking up your C7? Did you have any issues with it not fitting properly? If so did the bad fit compromise the protection in any way?

yes, and when I got home I sold it, i did not like the way it fit or trapped dirt....
Did you heave any issues with it actually damaging the finish? Short term use only.

It trapped dirt.....what else needs to be said? Not good.... besides it jams these pieces of plastic between your headlights and your body to hold it on, and I don't like messing with the panels that way… I was not impressed

I'm curious to see what you find out. I live about equal distance between columbus and Cincinnati, I have been searching for a detailer that does both xpel and either opti coat or quartz. I'm pretty impressed by what I've found online for a detailer in cincy called TSS detailing but I'd rather go to Columbus if you find a good place. But I've got a couple months before mine will be here.
