Yes I have seen these products just wanted to see if anyone has used plasti-dip. The one reason I am asking is because I am going to be doing all my emblems.

You should look for the thread by Bluray_Z51 (hope I'm remembering it right) about his mods. He did the plasti dip on his front emblem and side stingrays and it looks pretty good.

Hey H2OStingray,

I plasti-dipped my emblems black with gloss as Suzy_Cruisy mentioned. It came out pretty good on my first attempt. I also did the chrome strip on the grill. I went with 5 coats of black plasti-dip and 5 coats of glossifier.

So ive spent the past day or two researching plast dip and how safe it is to use on paint. Ive definitely found conflicting reports. It seems from what ive gathered, it can definitely eat away at your clear coat. But this may be only if you buy plast dip that contains xylene, which is the kind available at home depot. But if you you purchase rubber dip from a place like dipyourride.com then the thinning agent used is safe for clear coat. Is this the general consensus about this product? Or am I wrong? Let me know your thoughts.

I really don't overthink things....it's always the lowes/HD stuff....can you show me a link on any forum that reports damage to auto paint?

Honestly, I've never seen this at all, and have seen many on the honda sites et al. peel it off after 3-4 years with no damage whatsoever. I'll continue to use it based on that experience...I just prep with alcohol and spray on....you might want to call the actual factory store in coral springs, fl and ask them.

I only use it on badges and black outs....many though do use it for temporary bras with no problem...

Yes this is what ive experienced as I plasti dipped my 370z emblems and door handles and seemed to be ok. My only concern is not ever having seeing any scientific data to back up the fact that clear coat is not effected negatively in any way. Im just being super cautious and trying to educate myself the best I can before spraying on my $65k vehicle. I plan to dip the roof, spoiler, and emblems if its indeed deemed safe. Otherwise I may spend a little more money and just 3m vinyl wrap those areas instead.

we both may be right in that large areas should be sprayed via gun to get it smooth, cans tend to leave tracks. Therefore you buy it by the quart or gallon and that may be a diff mix. Call the store if you want to get more info. I appreciate the links, but I would think if it harmed paint it would be all over the forums no matter what the car, as it is very popular with the less expensive pacific rim imports....personally I would wrap it. Plastidip up close sprayed over large areas looks like a boy racer mod, IMO..

Here is my emblems dipped. 5 coats black 3 coats gloss. I also took off the "corvette." I already ordered my stinger stripe from vettefx with supercharged on it just have to wait to get the procharger installed before I put that on.
