I'm surprised to see that GM uses the same color denominations for different Corvettes model years.

For example : the actual 2015 DSOM which is the same name than the 2006 orange.

My question is for the Corvettes specialists :cool : The same color name would suppose to have the same tint... but is (was) it really the case ?
For myself, my pictures search with "DSOM Corvette" are showing that the '06 DSM looks to be very, very close to what we can really expect for the '15 one! (based on the sample we have seen and the pictures of the Z06 at the Plan).

What are the historical experiences ?

The 2006 color was Daytona Sunset Orange Metallic. The 2015 color is Daytona Sunrise Orange Metallic. And the colors are, as you suggest, different. Both pretty, but distinctly different.

The C6 Orange is in fact a completely different color than the C7 orange color. In 2005/2006 the color was Daytona Sunset Orange Metallic (marketing color name), Sunset Orange Metallic (paint color name) with RPO code 71 and paint code WA633H. The 2015 color is Daytona Sunrise Orange Metallic (marketing color name), Orange U Tempted (paint color name) with RPO code G1H and paint code WA408Y. While in photos they take on a similar shade, they are different in person. There have been cases over the years where colors have been carried over from different model years (Artic White, Torch Red for example), this particular orange isn't one of them.

There are also cases where colors are shared among vehicle platforms (Camaro and Corvette) or even among Brands (Cadillac and Chevrolet). Carbon Flash Metallic and Torch Red are two that come to mind as shared colors.

Thanks for that information Paul. Are these paint codes the same when used on other GM vehicles?
Yes. You'll see the paint code (the WA number) carry over. What changes between models and marques is the marketing name.
