Am looking into a dash mount radar detector and would hope to tap power from the front camera housing behind the rear view mirror. I have heard on this site that power tapping from the mirror itself causes a brown out type problem yet the 2014s also have the wiring in place up front for the 2015 data recording camera. Has anyone used these (yellow-+12v, black-ground) yet to see if there is sufficient amperage available? I'm considering the Escort SmartRadar because of the receiver's small size which I may incorporate into the camera housing itself and extend the display cable down to the dash. I installed a Beltronics StiR system in my last car (Lotus Esprit) but it was quite the chore; one which I don't really want to repeat on the vette. Thanks, Brett

All radar install threads I've found refer to direct wiring to the fuse box or accessory jack. If some one has tried tapping the front camera leads, they haven't mentioned it here yet.

Yes, I've heard you can't tap into the auto dimming/onstar mirror setup. The camera housing in front has a different source though...
Addendum: Decided to go all in and remote locate the display on the console so pulled all trim and center console to facilitate that, pulling the power line to the accessory jack in the small storage case as well.

I successfully tapped the wires in my rearview mirror with no issue at all. It has worked flawlessly. I am powering a Passport Max 2 mounted to the mirror stalk with a Blendmount . I used these instructions.

I had a C6 and use the tap behind the mirror. No problems.
