I wonder if anyone else has noticed that the rear bumper appears to be cracking just in front of the rear spoiler. I noticed today what looks like stress cracks but they are almost covered up by the spoiler. Aloha, Mark

I was wondering if that was going to be an issue with all of the pressure from the rear spoiler. I assumed they beefed up the section underneath the body.

Are you talking about the top of the deck in front of the spoiler by the trunk? Have you ever rested the pizza delivery box on the spoiler as you put it in or took it out? That could easily torque the bumper and cause the stress cracks.

MarkZ51,

Sorry to read that your 'Vette's rear bumper appears to be cracking. This sounds very concerning! Although you're seeking opinions from others, I'd be happy to communicate your concerns with the Customer Experience Managers (CEM) at your GM dealer of choice. Please know that you're welcome to message us privately if you would like to discuss this further, or if you simply want this matter documented.

Kindly,

William R.

Mark, did you get a chance to see my post #4 re possibly resting the bread box? I remember reading of one or two other members who had rested a suitcase or something on the wing and that resulted in the cracks I think you are seeing.

I can't tell by the photos..except there seems to be a line from left top toward center in the first photo. I do not have the cracking you describe. How deep is it? Paint? Fiber? Surface damage?

Probably a dealer trip for you. Gotta be a nice drive to Waipahu!

Boomer, I live 5 minutes away from that dealer. Right down the street and they were one of the 3 dealers that said I was out of luck and could not get a 2014 Corvette. Worst of all I used to work for Servco Pacific. Aloha, Mark

Jsvette has the answer here I'll bet, also the spoiler looks like it has been wrapped in carbon flash vinyl, both actions can torque the spolier, no, the area below it is not reinforced, easy to stress that area. Hope you can warranty this, very important no one rests or pushes on the spoiler, it flexes the paint in that area.

Mark, go to the other Chevrolet dealership that you are comfortable with and have a tech at the body shop check it out. Could this happen over a period of time with normal use without a single item ever being placed there. Keep us posted on the outcome of your situation.

Thanks for the input, but I think, if you put a pizza box on the rear bumper and it cracks it there is a serious design flaw. What happens when you back into something? Isn't there a 5 mph test manufacturers have to meet. I don't know but I'm curious how GM is going to handle this. I will keep you updated hopefully the Chevrolet Customer Care rep will get back to me. Aloha, Mark

Also, one other thing I noticed. The backup camera on my wife's Jeep Grand Cherokee beeps when she gets close to something. That doesn't necessarily mean she isn’t going to hit it, she still does, but at least the beep lets her know she’s about to. The cameras on my corvette only have the option of the lines or not, no beep, why is that? Aloha, Mark
P.S. I hope none of you know my wife.

When you back in to something they do not guarantee that you won't have damage, just that you will survive it. The wing was not designed for weighty objects to be placed on it.
