like most of you, i too have a C7 journey to share. i've always found vettes interesting, especially the C2 and C3. when the C5Z came out, i was floored by it's performance, but taken aback by the interior, not to mention that the price was too much for me to handle at the time. the C6 revisions were definitely going in the right direction and the C6Z is gorgeous, mean and totally kick-ass in form, but again, the interior still doesn't wow me. enter the C7 and the start of something good...
i honestly had not been paying attention to the C7 reveal and completely missed it until i was tooling around on auto sites in december and saw a banner ad for chevy and the C7. i clicked through to check it out and was floored. the exterior, the INTERIOR, the price. could i make this work for my next weekender? is it worth it? should i really do this? those are the questions i asked as I found myself obsessively configuring different builds for the next two weeks.
i placed an order with a local dealer in january, convinced i would get a car in about 12-16 weeks as i was told i was number eight in the queue. no problem. i wanted it in april-may anyway. then, i started reading the forums and found out about allocations, constraints, etc. and started to get worried. i pressed hard on my dealer and found out the awful truth. their allocations were drying up and next to no Z51 orders were getting through consensus. this wasn't going to happen. oh well. it was fun to dream... wait, screw that. i want one of these come hell or high water.
i called ken fichtner of fichtner chevrolet to see what he could do. he took my order on 02/14 and had it accepted by GM two business days later with ALL of my options going through. ken and his team have completely changed my perception of chevrolet dealers and what i should expect when working with one. i haven't owned american in nearly 20 years and it was a big leap of faith for me to consider doing so again. thanks to ken and dennis of fichtner chevrolet, i now have one of these extraordinary machines tucked away in my garage.
i've only got about 30 miles on her, but it has exceeded all of my expectations. i never got to test drive or even ride in one of these before pulling the trigger. it feels like a luxury car, rides like an exotic, sounds fantastic and seems to have plenty of go even though i haven't really railed on it yet. it took me about a mile to get used to the clutch/shifter combo and i haven't even come close to stalling it. the rev matching is amazing IF you drive it aggressively and get on and off the clutch quickly. it's better then me and i have been heel/toeing for 15 years.
i definitely need more time behind the wheel, but it is pissing down rain here in DFW today, so i'll spend a couple of hours going through my manual and getting all of my settings to my liking. thus far, i am thoroughly impressed and very happy with my decision to jump through hoops in order to acquire this car. i love it. love the looks, the interior, the driving dynamics and it's overall KICK-ASS personae.
Here's a few post-delivery pics before a few mods i have planned.
