I was interested in a Stingray with only 3500 miles on odometer. According to its Carfax report, this Stingray was manufactured in Sep 2013. The Carfax report also shows that it was never sold to any individual owner. My guess is that it was probably used as press or demo car. The dealer who sells this Stingray actually bought 3 of these from auction. The car looks fine but I have some concern about the manufacturing date. Sep 2013 appears to belong to one of those early Stingray batches Chevy produced. I wonder if there is any potential risk associated with such early production batch? You advise is greatly appreciated.

Of course, whether this car is a good buy is price dependent. If the price is good, and all relevant recalls have been performed, and you have the full warranty, why not?

But in determining whether the price is good, don't compare it to its MSRP, Compare it to the price of a new 2015 car from one of our forum sponsors, with the discounts available in today's market, or supplier pricing from one of these dealers, which all (I think) will offer on an ordered car, and probably on an in stock car. You do not tell us where you are other than in the United States, so I don't know how far you are from the big east coast dealers.

I am a believer in the idea that, during the first year, there are undocumented improvements in any new model, and by the second year, a lot of problems are addressed.

Hi Milliwatt, thanks for your input. I livein Northern California Bay area. This Stingray coupe has 3LT, Z51, Magnetic suspension, dual sport exhaust and transparent roof panel. The seller is asking for $63K. I believe comparable 2015 model is around $73K before tax. I suppose I can go to my local Chevy dealer service and ask for service record with the VIN and find if there is any outstanding TSB or recall has been performed.

One last note, I am actually also considering the new 2015 Z06 to be released next Spring. From what I have learned, there seems to be a significant premium markup Chevy dealers will be commanding, like $30K or even above, above the listing price. I wonder if this is just pure hype or there is some truth in it?

You can order a new Z06 from the large east coast dealers (as Milliwatt Rob refers to) at MSRP, but do some research here on the forum first - there are a lot of variables in play between demand, and choice versus availability of transmission. If you want an M7, you can most likely have a car in your garage by Spring, if you want an A8, you may be pushed to a 2016 model...

My Z51 was built in Sept 2013, delivered to me Oct 11, 2013. By far, it's the best car I've ever owned in my life. In my opinion, you won't go wrong purchasing the one you've described.

Today, I went to local Chevy dealer and asked for service records on the Stingray I was interested in. To my surprise, the service adviser said that according to VIN, that vehicle is BLOCKED for any outstanding recall or TSB repair. I gave the 2nd VIN of another Stingray for sale by the same dealer and it came back the same. The service adviser also told me that this is very unusual. He can only guess these 2 Stingrays are probably salvaged. However, both CarFax reports show clear title. Go figure that out .... For those who are just as puzzled as I am, here are the 2 VIN numbers:

Could it have been a track car, used at one of the Chevy sponsored schools? I thought I read that they sell them of regularly so they do get too many miles on the speedo.

DANGER, DHSIEH, DANGER.......STAY FAR, FAR AWAY.

Even if these cars were perfect, mysteries on car histories are not good, and would affect resale value.

Thanks to everyone who offer their opinion to this thread. I am going to wait for the Z06 before I decide which Stingray to buy.
At this point it will be 2016.....15s are all gone...easily.....

At my local dealership today for an oil change, they have a triple black Z06 coupe inbound that is unsold. M7 not the A8, it appears that you can get Z06 as long as you take M7.

It has been mentioned before, that until A8 Z06 cars are being produced in volume, M7 Z06 will be reasonably available. After that, pent up A8 Z06 demand will significantly reduce the number of "excess" M7 Z06 being built. In other words, NOW is the time to get a M7 Z06.

As for getting an A8 Z06, there is, an will be for some time, buyers lined up with their name on a reservation list that will be served first. People just entering the market for an A8 Z06 might have to wait for some time...maybe even 2016 MY.

One thing that could throw a monkey wrench in that is if the A8 is constrained after it becomes available. If that happens, there essentially will be no waiting lists on M7 for the time during which the A8 is in production, but constrained. So, it is possible that the M7 Z06 will always be very, very, very easy to get. Also, if constraints happen on the A8, you can bet your bottom dollar that people who have already been on order lists for a long time will have to wait until 2016, let alone people who are just now coming to the party.

I would recommend you give a call to Mike Furman at Criswell Chevy in Maryland (or PM him here on the forum: [email protected] ). Mike has sold over 3,000 Corvettes and will give you a straight story on available allocations and wait times. He can ship to the West Coast. I drove 5 hours from New York to work with him. He made the long distance process simple and straightforward.

Basics here. USED is just that, USED! Too much to risk here especially with a car with this performance. It could be a dream or a lemon. Even with a warranty in place it could turn out to be a nightmare. If you can buy this specialty car NEW buy NEW. You'll sleep better at night knowing the minute it rolled off the production line there are no suprises. Good luck.
