On the main menu - settings - you will see an option for display mode on or off. The factory default is "on". When setting to "off", you will be unable to change it back to "on". The settings factory default restore needs to be selected and you have to customize all the settings options again. I called GM and they verified. Any software updates will need a dealer visit. Why the C7 software can't automatically update is strange.

Starting with the 2015's, software updates can be done if an OnStar account if active, saving one trips to the dealership.

I've read this before but it begs the question: Unless they have created a download protocol that requires the car to be running to update, this will mean even more parasitic battery draw. Some of the ECM upgrades on 2014 models required (in some cases) up to 2 hours to complete. I sure hope the software team thought about this.
