I like to check our forum and other vette websites just to see what sort of trends I can find. I am seeing a couple of issues that have had more than a single occurrence. I am throwing them up here so that if anyone here has the same issue we can have it posted in our “issues & resolution” forum. I have spotted a couple of issues that are worrisome.
Base and Z-51 cars are still experiencing problems that require a rear diff replacement. I cannot tell if the cars affected were only those early low VIN cars with low lube or not? From what I’ve read the lack of proper lube level can kill a diff. pretty quickly.

Another issue that I am starting to see is that several owners of manual tranny equipped cars are reporting that their shifter moves hard into neutral as the tranny kicks out of gear. I have not seen follow ups on these reports and will see what happens and follow up here.

Lastly, there seems to be more issues with the infotainment screen going blank. A new owner of a convertible owner has reported issues with his doing this.

Voice recognition on MyLink improved!

I just found this:

"I've experienced all of the frustrating issues described elsewhere regarding the voice recognition. Then my Chevy dealer enlightened me. Anytime your climate control is running the fan at a higher speed, there is a frequency developed that is inaudible to the human ear however it masks most peoples' voice frequency of speech. Now, before initiating any voice command, I manually turn the fan speed down and the voice recognition works great! Once the call is initiated, I restore the fan by touching Autoclimate." I hope this is helpful.

A bit of perspective Sinner. There are some 37+ thousand Stingrays out there and the purpose of this thread was to specifically post re issues. It is not balanced by any reflection of the numbers of us who have essentially no problems with our Stingrays including many with medium to high first year mileage. Remember that the C7 was a totally new car except for 2 carry over components and under the circumstances bound to have some neonate issues.

I received a safety recall notice for a weld on rear shocks. I have an appointment on Monday, Labor Day. I am also noticing tire wear on the right rear outer edge. PSI are all at 32 except left front, was 29psi.

Well I just found a new one.
Was detailing my car after my trip to Florida and found that the hood is cracking.
About a 1 in crack starting at the rear driver side of the hood vent.
Should be interesting to see what the dealer says about this.:(

GM is going to have a local body shop repair the crack and repaint the hood.
Going to the body shop tomorrow to talk to the guys and see if they have ever repaired a carbon fiber hood.

I should mention that I have almost 3500 miles.

The shock recall notice has been out for a while and is VIN specific. While you are in there you should ask for a wheel alignment (it is covered under warranty for the first 7k miles I think).

New issue - leaking windshield washer fluid. Two trips to the dealer, they finally found the reservoir was cracked and leaking. Now waiting for replacement part. The 4Cyl loaner Impala just doesn't cut it...

Let them order the part and call you when it comes in. No way would I leave my car sit at a dealership for a windshield washer reservoir. Heck I have had my car since early May and I don't think I have ever even used mine. It will only leak until it's empty anyway.

They started the repair today, expected to complete mid day tomorrow. I had a few other minor complaints that they are attending to such as a few body panel alignment issues and a loud creek from the driver side roof latch.

Hopefully I will have her back in good form for Laborday weekend.

The lines of the rear facia were far from correct from the factory. The gaps were very inconsistent to the point that caused paint rubbing. Also my front passenger qtr panel was off making a very obvious visual out of alignment when you looked at the point where it met the hood and headlights.

The panels by themselves were not bothering me too much. I was not going to take the car in just for that but since I had to address the torque tube I also then wanted to get the cosmetic issues.

Convertible top issue

I found this today and wanted to let you convertible owners know about it. I am not sure if this is a one of a kind issue or something more widespread.
"Convertible top malfunctioned today
tried putting the top down today by remote it only went half way and stopped so I tried re-pushing the remote and nothing so after a minute I decided to go in the car and do it from there . I pushed the button to make it go back up and the next thing I know the back window exploded into the vehicle."

To the best of our knowledge this did not occur to one of our member Stingrays and no update is available at this time.

Seat material de-lam.

It appears there was a batch of bad seat material installed in some early vin models (maybe later models as well?) As far as I can tell, this issue has only affected a few owners, but be aware of it. Apparently the two layers of this material can de-laminate and look like this:

Is this isolated to certain colors, or across the board??

My comment was not meant to be derogatory only educational. Some dealers will lead you to believe you need to leave the car there while you wait for the parts to come in, and that is not the case. When my rear hatch seal needed replaced they told me it would probably take three days or so to get the parts and that I could use a loaner. I told them I would rather have my car, and they were like, "are you sure?" I was like, yeah no need to leave it sitting outside in your lot when I could be driving it. They agreed and that's what I did. Unless the part is safety related or there is eminent danger to the car, there is no good reason to leave your car at the dealership. Obviously it is everyone's decision and choice based on their own circumstances, but some dealers make the owner feel like they have to abide by what they say, and my post is to let them know they don't have to if they choose not to. Ok back to the thread, sorry if I threw it off task.

Some issues I am seeing

Greg,

My comment was not directed at you, it was a generic comment. It just happened to show up after your post based on when I hit the enter key.

When I'm commenting about a particular post I usually always use the "quote" function.

It's all good ;)

I started this thread to inform members here of issues I am seeing in my recon. of the many sources of information available on the web concerning the C-7. So far, I have able to dual source any issue I have brought to the attention of our membership. I plan to continue to do so.

Thanks for clarifying Chip. I along with others misunderstood the thread title and thought it was going to reflect specific issues our members had experienced.

Seat movement issue

Problem: "My '15 was dropped at my dealer today, and while the tech was doing the PDI, he moved the passenger seat forward to remove certain protective plastic. Now the seat is all the way forward, and the back is tilted as far as it can go...and it will not move at all when pressing the seat switches."

Possible Fix "If you peel back the carpet behind the seat you will see a connector ...unplug then wait 30 secs then re-attach the connector."

Or this: "A tech beat on the carpet behind the seat with his hand and Bingo...all good! The sensors are a strip of 6-8 Surface mount pressure sensors. Any extra pressure on them will kick the limit stuff into play and what you are seeing will happen. In my case, I had put some sound insulation behind the carpet, not understanding how those limit switches worked... Several have mentioned unplugging...I'll likely do that, but all is working fine now with the Sound pad removed."

At this point it looks like any blending will be confined to the hood. Since they have to clear coat the entire hood, I took advantage of this to have them paint the stinger stripe on and clear over it. Warranty is paying for the hood fix and paint, they are charging me $289 extra to paint on the hood stripe while they are doing the repair.
GM charges $500 just for the stinger vinyl graphic.

Hearing some unusual noises when driving in sport mode. My C7 is an auto. When driving at low speed when auto trans shifts into 3-4 gear the baffles shut off and goes into V4 and sounds like a pinging. Struggles to increase RPM's. Any suggestions ?

2015 C7 Z-51 with 8 Speed Automatic - Jerks

I just saw this, and will keep an eye open for this GM doc. and see if it turns into a TSB or PIP for both the Z-51 and / or the base car.

"I picked up my 2015 C-7 Z-51 car 1 week and 2 days ago. It seemed fine the first few days. Then transmission started popping the clutch in the 1-2 shift, strongly jerking the car. Friday, 10/3/2015, Dealer handed me GM Document 3966488, "Information on Transmission Adaptive Functions".
Basically, they tell you to use M and shift to 7th while keeping engine speed between 1000-1750 RPM. Repeat up to 10 times.
Of course, you still have to go through the dreaded 1-2 jerk and it doesn't seem to be improving."

Yikes! I hope this turns out to be a non-issue. I have an 2015 with an A-8 on order. Chip please let us know what you find out. Thanks!
