The New Year has arrived - Happy New Year to all Corvette lovers!

So, Chevy is opening up the 2014 C7 allocations to all dealers now. Good for them. However, it's frustrating to see some of the Big's offering stock vehicles (some at a discount, go figure) when a customer sold order can't get built. Was Chevy's allocation model really fair to customers? It might have been fair to dealers (especially the Bigs), but who really needs to be happy? Dealers, or customers?

How many of us are stuck at 1100? My Z51 convertible was entered into my dealer's workbench at first opportunity in August. Stuck at 1100 ever since......... I guess Chevy can't see sold orders vs. stock orders in their system; what a shame.

Here's to freeing the 1100 hostages in the next couple weeks so that we have our dream cars by spring.

Possibly not the way it should be, but it's the legal way...and make no mistake about it, after some major suits and losses in the hundreds of millions of dollars, the only customer Chevrolet has is the dealer, not the end user. Here's hoping you can get built soon...

While I understand your comment, and appreciate the reference to legalities, I will differ slightly with your view. Given that Chevy established the program on allocations, they could have just as easily stated in the program that dealer sold orders would take precedence over dealer stock orders - if the dealers don't have customers, then Chevy doesn't have customers either...... just my $.02 - I've been in wholesale distribution as well, so I fully understand your point.

Now, I will further agree that Chevy may not have had any indication that constraints would play such a role in the acceptance and production of orders; let's not forget the customers that gave up desired options just to get a car built.

I hope my car gets built soon too - thanks

As to being fair, when Chevy was deciding whether to keep the Corvette in production, they asked the dealers (their only customer) to help out by buying vettes. Some dealers stepped up, ordering stock vehicles, keeping demand up. Other dealers blew them off and did not order cars they might have to put some effort into selling and not make a huge profit on. The dealers that ordered lots of vettes (and they are not all big. My dealer has a 3 car showroom, but moves over 100 vettes per year.) got rewarded for their loyalty, while those that couldn't be bothered get stuck at the back of the line.

If you are still stuck at 1100 after 4 months, your dealer either has no allocations, or you have every constrained option possible on your order. I would address your complaints to your dealer. Ask him how many allocations he has used while your order was stuck at 1100. If he has gotten other vettes, it is probably a problem with your order. If none, then your dealer promised something he couldn't provide. Is he even one of the 900 eligible to order Stingrays in the first half of the model year.

sckennedy52- sorry to hear. Why don't you go to the customer service thread http://www.stingrayforums.com/forum/stingray-corvette-purchasing/1524-chevy-cust-care-tracking-your-order.html and ask them to look into it for you?
I have, and I have had some private conversations on the topic with GM. The bottom line is allocations, and constraints at the time an allocation becomes available, and you know, I get that. I fully understand. I just have an issue, albeit personal and self-serving, seeing a car with the same options I want sitting on a dealer's lot with no buyer at the same time that my order can't get filled.

Doesn't seem fair to me, but I understand those are the rules of the game right now, and all I can do is hope that my order will get in line for production soon.

As Fdxpilot mentioned perhaps your dealer does not actually have any allocations or has not participated in the required Stingray training program. If you "see a car with the same options I want sitting on a dealer's lot with no buyer" why don't you negotiate with that dealer for the car?

Good questions; they have had allocations, but constraints have gotten in the way. Awaiting for further allocations to present themselves. As for other dealers, yes they have the major items (Z51), but not 3LT, or not Auto, or not the right color, etc. Not the car exactly as I want.

Yes, I could drop my order with my dealer, and go with another - the local dealer wants $8k over MSRP; they would have to order, and for a variety of personal reasons, I'm not at that point; yet.

I'm hopeful that the new year will bring resolution to my problem, and we'll all be happy. I don't think that I'm the only guy in this situation, and I don't think that the answer should be to abandon the local dealer in favor of one of the Bigs.

And in the interest of full disclosure, my '07 was purchased from one of the Bigs - out of state from where I live but I have no issue with going back if I have to. I've called them; unfortunately, no call back. Probably too busy trying to sell the inventory currently in stock and not moving.

Here's the problem with trying to gather the customer orders and allocate them that way - bypassing the dealer sales history. And as a former Representative of Honda, Porsche and BMW for the last 35 years all I did was allocate cars to the dealers. So yeah, I know about this. The problem with asking dealers to provide sold orders is, how do you know they are real? Dealers fabricate to get what they want. They use "straw buyers" Porsche in particular has this problem...Bonified real DL# people, addresses, etc that they say they are going to buy the car. even signed buyers orders. Before you know it, they dealer says they fell out and he has the car ...and did not help BG at all selling the C6's when Chev needed help. And chev corporate has no manpower to vett/verify 15,000 orders....

There is not a volume mfr out there that supplies cars to a dealer based on what he says he has sold. The current way has been tried in the courts by Honda, BMW and scads of others. I personally have been on the stand for it, requesting my sales records and method of allocation. You have to use past history.

sckennedy52-- We know your story. We are at 1100 today, but we finally have hope!
Our story starts out with us going to see the dealer closest to our home. There are 5 dealers in our area that can sell corvettes. We are so excited that the dealer has 3 in the showroom we decide to place an order. We ask if he can work with his sister dealer on a dealer swap. We are told no they are totally seperate and do not work together. He tells us it will take maybe 2 to 3 weeks to move past 1100 due to constraints. We read the forum. Should have done this first, however we are feeling good because we are number 1 on the list. So we wait, and wait, no updates and still waiting 4 weeks later. We go to the dealer. They have one that was just delivered. So still feeling good. Told that we are still waiting for a z51 slot. Holidays come and still no updates. We call and get the holiday shutdown for an excuse this time. Over 8 weeks waiting now. Yesterday I was looking at the posibility of getting a body color roof and ordering the glass roof from the parts department. Just for fun I click on inventory near you. All the dealers have corvettes. One of the dealers has 15 listed. (The sister dealer) They have z51s for sale. How can this be? So I call. It turns out that the sister dealer is a top 10 national corvette dealer. They have z51 quotes every week!! They have been in contact with our dealer and have told them multiple times they would do dealer swaps with them. (because they carry the same name they are trying to keep their reputation in the city good) I visit our dealer with the new knowledge. He tells us that GM still has constraints. Maybe on the 9th of Jan. but that doesn't look good. I ask how many they have sold this year. He doesn't want to say and then says around 12. The other dealer has sold close to 70!!!

So we ordered from the top 10 dealer who was very apologetic about the service we did not receive at the other dealer. The top 10 dealer called multiple times and sent us several emails the first day we talked to them.

Yes we are starting over, but feel we may actually see a new sting ray in Feb!!!

Another 1100 hostage here! I'm switching dealers if my order doesn't go 2000 by this time next week.

I'm also checking inventory and enroute stock at the top 5 or so national dealers every week. If I can find one w my must-haves I'll jump on that (I'm not a very patient person).

If you see a CGM 7sp Z51 Coupe w Dual Mode Exhaust and Nav feel free to PM me :)

Been at 1100 since somewhere between 10/21 and 10/25/13 ... will wait until maybe 1/24 and have a heart-to-heart with my dealer about whether they can really provide the vehicle I ordered. Will be much better if Z51 constraint is lifted next week...

OCT 1/2013 1100 and being in Canada means I have to wait as all allocations are filled from all dealers in my Province. So many more choices in the States I would have had it months ago. Almost positive it will be a 2015 model. :(

Today, we escaped Status Code 1100 Hostage status by purchasing our dream car from stock at one of the big dealers. I say this with mixed feelings; highest being that we're taking delivery of the car we want this Saturday, and with sadness that the dealer we originally placed our order with back in August won't get the sale (he will still sell our allocation, therefore a win-win). So, next post will be pictures on the Official Torch Red thread; weather permitting, next Sunday, the 19th.

Best of luck for early escape to the remaining hostages.

Been stuck since Nov 15. I am just not willing to compromise on what I want.....but I am a bit nervous that my dealer will not get an allocation for a Z-51 before the next model year, and I understand they will not be producing yellow next year which is what we have ordered. Being the first sports car of our lives, we want it to be what we want. Just sent a message to another big dealer tonight to test the waters. I am not willing to pay more than sticker price. Guess I am just silly.

PoconoG, you're within a reasonable drive to two of the largest dealers. Your call, but I'm hopeful that you can find what you want at one or the other.

Decided to go get our car today due to weather considerations, so we're off to Atlantic City. Pains me to read about more and more hostages. FWIW, my former dealer got an allocation this week; no Z51. In my case, he had to agree with my decision to move on to another dealer; he's not going to be able to get the car we want.
